City personnel, including police and firefighters, were advised to "power off all computers and shutdown cellphones," as dispatchers announced the attack over radio channels.

A spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Department said the cyberattack has not affected the 911 emergency system.

The full extent or type of attack was not immediately known.

"The City of New Orleans is under a cyber attack. Please power off your computers and unplug them immediately. Await further instructions," an internal text message from the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness said.

If they unplug all their computers and turn off their cell phones how will they receive further instructions?

More importantly how will the government workers know when it is break time?

Not true. Some times they are off on mental health days.

A former classmate of mine was consulting with the city regarding their data connectivity years back. He asked the CIO how they connected to the internet and was told "through the e"

He said the "e"?

The CIO turned their monitor around and clicked on the icon for Internet Explorer.

You see that alot and not just in governmental positions. Usually someone that doesn't know jack shite about IT is in charge of IT. A guy I used to work with who was an MBA had an saying that went "You don't need to know (insert department) to manage (insert department)". That always seemed so counter intuitive to me.

Yup. Becky Blalock, longtime Southern Company CIO and inveterate jackass, who liked to announce layoffs in fancy, multi-camera-angle videos:

I became his assistant to, typically you're in those jobs for about 2 years. Five months into that job, he walked in 1 day and said, “We’re creating new positions called chief information officers and we’re going to have 1 at Southern Company and then, each 1 of the operating companies will have one. We want you to be the 1 from Georgia Power.” I said, “Well, what does the chief information officer do?” I thought it was maybe something to do with communications. He said, “Oh, no. This is running all the information technology across the organization.” I was like, “You’ve got to be kidding me. I don’t hardly even know how to turn on my computer!”

People think this skank is a role model. Absolutely infuriating idiot of a person.

Yesterday BRCC got hit with ransomware, today NOLA did. Ransomware is the new normal. This is the 3rd or 4th significant ransomware outbreak in our state.

other news property crimes are up 63%...

but murders are down

332 shootings in 2018, compared to 331 in 2019.

So I guess thats a wash

Progress

That new hospitals really helped the murder rate, and hurt the aggravated assault rate eh?

Worst thing about going to ITT is all the non-alumni who flood the Quarter after the annual football classic versus DeVry.

Frickin' posers, man... I slaved away over a Packard-Bell for 5 years to earn that ring.

I still remember the ITT vs ITI rivalry. Lots of carnage left on the wake of that one.
