Crossroads Church partnered with RIP Medical Debt, a medical debt relief nonprofit, to wipe out debts for people in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. They will receive bright yellow envelopes this week letting them know the good news.

For every $100 donated to RIP Medical Debt, $10,000 in medical debt is wiped out, according to the New York-based organization.

Crossroads Church's recent deed constitutes the largest amount of medical debt eliminated in the nonprofit's history.

Amazing. I wish more did stuff like this rather than mission trips and such. Yeah third world countries need you to come over and play guitar but this legitimately helps so many families here.

They will need to learn about the joys of cancellation of debt income and the form 1099-C.

They don't apply

No. With your help, we abolish medical debt permanently. Recipients have no adverse tax consequences, obligations, or strings attached.

For those whose medical debts are forgiven, the forgiveness is a gift from a detached and disinterested third party (RIP) as an act of generosity, so forgiveness of the debt does not count as income to the debtor. We will not file a Form 1099-C with the IRS.

Long overdue medical debt is often sold for as little as 5% of its initial value. It didn't literally cost $46 million to settle the debt.

That church is a front, man. Being here in the area, I’ve heard stories.

Also pretty sure these were the asshats that landing a helicopter in the parking lot of a restaurant I worked at part time right near power lines.

They aren’t this altruistic. They’re hiding something.
