There are probably some who genuinely enjoy it, but mostly it's a way for men who are insecure about their masculinity to feel a little more manly.

You shouldn't begrudge them. If that's what it takes, so be it.

Hate cigars.

Pipes smell great! But they can be difficult to keep lit.

If I start to smoke again, it will be a pipe.

I'm sorry for you.

A good cigar is an hour or more meditation. The flavor wipp transform as the cigar is smoked. My favorite has a very acrid coffee flavor at first. You can taste the spice of the land where the tobacco was grown. After 20 minutes or so, it progresses to a dark chocolate. Warm.

By the end it is mellow. Dark. Sweet. Like a german chocolate cake with a bitter black coffee.

I enjoy one when mowing.

Over half of my humidor is filled with them. I rotate mine around while aging and I've noticed that 90% of what I put in there now is Maduro.

For the haters, I always think of this Carlin bit about cigars.

I am a petite female and enjoy a cigar a couple of times a year. I am not a smoker and have don't smoke cigarettes. But in the right setting, a cigar can be very relaxing.

It's funny that pipes have been brought up. Never smoked one and you never see them anymore. But I remember, when I was a kid, I loved the smell.

Do people even smoke pipes anymore?

Just packed a bowl! The mornings are finally starting to cool off over here. Nothing better than listening to some music (or the birds), having a cup of coffee, smoking a tasty blend and watching the sunrise.

As for cigars, I was never intrigued by them. Mainly because the look-at-me tough guy/rich guy cosplay culture surrounding them seemed silly, BUT I love tobacco and decided to give it an honest go, and keep an open mind. So I have been picking up a few cigars here and there with my recent pipe tobacco orders, and I’ll admit it’s been pretty enjoyable.

I still prefer a pipe. I feel like the flavors are more nuanced and varied, and easier to discern. Smoking a cigar feels like a sledgehammer on the palate by comparison. Maybe that changes over time, but that’s been my experience so far. On the other hand, the cigar is a lot less fuss. You more or less get a good light on it, sit back and enjoy. You’re not having to baby it like you do a pipe at times.

So, I’ll still be smoking more pipe tobacco than cigars moving forward, but I’ve enjoyed smoking cigars enough that I’ll definitely sneak the occasional one in from time to time.

Next thread by this a-hole: "Why do men drink beer? It tastes nasty. Is it an acquired taste? Why would you keep sipping it until it finally tastes acceptable, at best? Why don't they just drink milkshakes instead?"

I’ve discovered I like the feeling of a box pressed stick in the hand over a traditional one too.

I haven’t tried any aladino smokes yet so I’ll be adding that one to my list.

I’ve yet to smell a cigar that doesn’t smell horrible. Has to taste the same way. What does anyone get out of it?

Ever notice how many people (women included) buy tobacco scented candles, body wash, etc?

Tobacco has a pleasing smell when it's burning plus you get the relaxation of the nicotine hit. It's not a bad thing to enjoy on occasion, just like alcohol.

I had long enjoyed relaxing with a cigar during fall and spring weekend evenings or when hanging out with friends/family, but it had gotten to the point where the nicotine was just making me feel anxious/jittery and the showering off afterwards because I smelled like shite became more trouble than it was worth. I still enjoy the occasional cigar, though, no more than a handful of times a year. Like any hobby, it was fun researching different brands/profiles/scents, etc. To this day, a humidor is one my favorite smells of all time.
