I haven’t heard any of them. I understand they taste good that probably explains it.
I am willing to try a battered and fried locust. I have heard it ain't bad.

Cicada killers won’t be far behind. Hide your kids.

I’ve seen a few of those bastards already. Living in the woods on 50 acres has its perks, but those ain’t one.

Seen one of those kill a cicada and tote it off like a Chinook helicopter.

was reading about that yesterday. They're carrying psilocybin so you can trip balls if you eat their wings. Apparently Native Americans figured that out a while ago and would eat locust wings.
Anyone care to round up and freeze dry me a ziploc full?

Copperheads love cicadas. Get you a nest of them

I don’t think they’re going to migrate that far west. Based on the sound alone over the last week or so, I don’t think they’re migrating at all.

I always have them yearly but not the black/red eye ones.... those I've only seen once

Get ready for copperheads and GDCK's.

For only very limited parts of La., the future is,
Brood XIX (2024)
Brood XXII (2014)
Brood XXIII (2015)
All 13 year, and all restricted to the upper Ms. River Parishes and a few N. La. Parishes.

Speaking of large insects, what ever happened to black grasshoppers? I used to see those all over the place when I was a kid. I can't tell you the last time I saw one.

Males that are infected will continue to mate with females, but they'll also pretend to be females so they can spread the fungus to even more partners.
So they're on the down low and spreading a plague?

The good news is, they don’t sting. The aggressive ones like the one you have pictured are males.
The females can sting but rarely sting humans. I had an infestation of them at my house in college. One of the entomology people came out and identified them for me.

I think the ones here got drowned.

The posts about copperheads liking to eat cicadas are on the money.
