These things have taken over my area. It sounds like a house alarm going off they’re so loud.

Get some good recording equipment. Record them for about 30 minutes. Loop the recording. Then, sell it for .99 to hipsters around the world to, "Help them sleep."

I’ve yet to find any good use for them. Fishing, maybe.

A Fungus Is Pushing Cicada Sex Into Hyperdrive And Leaving Them Dismembered

LINK

quote:

The insects have no idea what's happening. The fungus, however, is "pulling the strings" and making the cicadas want to mate with everyone.

quote:

Males that are infected will continue to mate with females, but they'll also pretend to be females so they can spread the fungus to even more partners.

2021, when even the Cicadas are non bianary.

the fungus makes them instead become hypersexual from psilocybin — the same chemical found in psychedelic mushrooms.

They are really good for the soil. They also feed wildlife a lot. The birds, small mammals, and lizards about to be eating gooooood

But I don't know if you care about that.

The common thing I hear is people confusing them with locusts, which eat crops on a large scale. Cicadas rise, frick, and die.

This explains why my feeders haven’t seen any birds in over a week. They’re for the bears and squirrels now.

I generally have cicadas every year in late summer. I haven’t heard any yet this year though.

There are yearly cicadas and then the type that lay dormant for a decade or more like I’m experiencing here in NC.

I was reading about that yesterday. They're carrying psilocybin so you can trip balls if you eat their wings. Apparently Native Americans figured that out a while ago and would eat locust wings.
