If you’re only taking one which is it and why?

Ive heard that it doesnt really matter which one you take. That all of them will get you where you to want to be in terms of promotions.

I also understand the CPA is the most valuable, but taking into consideration time and difficulty which would you choose if you were only going to take one?

Is the CPA really worth it if you arent going to stick with accounting and plan on moving into other departments under the finance function?

A CISA is only worth it if you plan on living solely in the information/cybersecurity audit world.

CPA still has the most broad application; even in industry finance functions.

Does not compute.

Yes, get it if you can. I finished it in 9 months while working full time. It sucks but get it over with.

CPA. CIA is really only useful in internal audit.

Having CPA next to your name is powerful the others are not.

Very true and that won't change anytime soon.

That world is going to be growing exponentially in the next decade or two. That CISA will not only get harder and harder to get but will increase in value along with it.

Why not get both OP? If you're technically strong, you'd be able to print money with this combination.

I think the point I was making is that the CPA looks the best, but that it really doesnt matter because any certification will allow you to be promoted to a management position. From what I have heard.

All you need is a BAW certification.

If you can’t decide what is best for you, then maybe you just aren’t management material.

If I plan on going the audit/consulting/cybersecurity route, do the benefits of the CPA really outweigh the costs? I’m currently studying for the CIA. If I get the CIA, the only other certification I would get is the CISA.

I feel like the CPA really wouldnt be worth it at that point with those two other certifications.

Am I wrong?

The first question theyll ask you is, "why didnt you get your cpa?"

If that’s your path, then yes, the CIA/CISA combo is probably most likely sufficient. But you didn’t phrase your question that way originally.

I rarely see CIA without CPA.

You're trying to get validation that you don't need the CPA is hard and you don't want to do it. If you don't want to do it, don't, but yes it's worth it. Top management aren't CIA's, the top for that is internal audit manager or something similar.

Been in the auditing field for 15 years. When I see a CPA, I know that person isn't stupid and at least some point in their life worked their arse off to attain something.

CIA weeds some weak minds out but not all of them.

CISA is a great certification. 2 things: It's going to become more valuable (everything involves IT now) and IMO harder to get.

CPA is definitely worth it and is viewed more as an advanced degree than just a certification. It’s the most valuable thing I have done for myself.

I currently have my CIA. At the end of this year I'll have the CISA. After that, I need more hours to sit for the CPA.
