If I saw a guy mow down 98% of the people in a room I was in, I'd have a pretty good fricking idea of what he looked like.

In chaos like that, you may very well not. It's not uncommon for people to literally block something like that out shortly after a traumatic event like that.
That said, I have a hard time believing if they have an exact age that they don't have a name. My guess is they're withholding it for a reason.
