Chronic Back Pain- Lumbar Facet Injections?

I've got degenerative disc disease and have been dealing with chronic back pain for the last year. My doctor suggested lumbar facet injections. They are basically injections of local anesthetic into the facet joints and are supposed to block the pain.
Have any of y'all had lumbar facet injections? If so, did it work and for how long?
There are mixed reviews online about their effectiveness, but that seems typical with most medical procedures.

My cousin has chronic back pain and when he doesn’t get his medicine he can’t function. Extreme pain, nausea, cold sweats, can barely get out of bed. The works. Are you sure you don’t have fibromyalgia like he does?

Worked for me. Going on 8 years or so with no symptoms.

I've had an lumbar RFA. Basically a nerve burning procedure that cuts off the pain signal. Most people need to repeat them every year or so for around 7 years until the nerve stops regenerating .....I got lucky and have only needed two.
Ask you doctor about this procedure. I've never seen anyone have it who did not get good relief

They also burn the nerves with Phenol sometimes.

Hopefully you find something better than myself, painkillers work but obviously cause their own set of problems...

Had them three times. First worked like a charm in 12 hours no pain it was amazing. Relief lasted for 8 months. Second less so for 2 months relief and third no difference. I think that’s how it goes for most.
It’s been three years since the last one which I believe allows me to try again.
Procedure was quick and painless. I’d for sure try it.

I've dealt with this for 20+ years, mine started with an accident where I fell 4 feet and landed right on my L-4/L-5 disk.
I've had two surgeries, probably 10 shots and fought it with narcotics several times.
The shots can provide relief but are expensive, Dr usually wants an MRI ($1,500) to see exactly where the shots need to go and they knock you out for the shot ($$$$). I have group insurance but the out of pocket keeps me from using the Dr. unless I'm in a shite storm of pain. I've had a couple of shots that gave me 3-4 years of less pain, and a couple that seemed like a waste of money.
Riding an incumbent bike can help a lot, it will build muscles in your stomach and stretch the area. I put mine in front of the tv and do 45 minutes 4-5 days a week.

I've had MRI's done and went to a spinal specialist and he said it was degenerative disc disorder.

I was doing some of those today at work. It’s definitely worth a try. Everyone reacts different and the doctor doing it may have different techniques. Better than having a fusion if it offers relief!

My dad had it. Going on three years now. He still has back pain but it resolved the sciatica.

If you decide to have treatment, I HIGHLY recommend you put this guy on the list of who you have perform the treatment. .... Dr Waring considered one of the best in the US.

I have degenerative disc disease also. I didn't find out until I had a lower back injury with sciatica. Excruciating pain down my right leg. I was first on pain management for it then I did the injections in my back. It took two tries to get some relief and even helped my sciatica a bit. But in the end the fusion (L4, L5) relieved it all, but I'm now starting with pain in my middle back. I'll probably do the injection again if it comes to that.

I get one or two a year to stave off disc surgery. Degenerative discs in L4-L5 and L5-S1.
Usually deal with it on a daily basis but at times when I over do it on yard projects or going up and down trees during hunting season it gets virtually unbearable. At those times I usually go with the steroid injections to take the worse flare-ups off.
I have had them give relief for 6 months and others just 2. Kind of hit and miss.
Barrister I am curious about this. have heard it can work miracles but am a bit leary of it. Is it usually accomplished by a neuro-surgeon?

Forget the shots, ask about the RFA Therapy (nerve kill)
It lasts 1-2 years for me and allows me to play golf and other things.

But they usually have to go through a series of injections before being able to do the RFA
