I would not expect to be hassled by police anywhere unless you are acting like an arse...as I remember it, probably 90% of the folks in attendance will be drinking. just be discreet with it and you won't have trouble.

It had gotten a trashy mardi gras atmosphere for a while. In recent years they've cleaned it up and gone in a very family friendly direction. I think alcohol is okay, but like you say, show your arse and you will have a law enforcement encounter.

Parking can be tough to find downtown on a normal day, much less during the Festival. I think you can park at Natchitoches Central HS and catch a shuttle downtown.

I'm at the Fairfield now. Driving up tomorrow. Anything to do between Nola and Natchitoches? Also anything to do in Natchitoches other than the Christmas festival this weekend? Places to eat? Things to see? Help me out locals.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE NSU GALA Friday night. shows at 7 & 9, I think. check the website: www.nsula.edu

It will get you in the Christmas spirit and then you can go to Maggios or The Filling Station for an eggnog daiquiri afterwards and see the lights.

There's a new Christmas in the Woods that's a lighted tour.

There is a Pecan Plantation on HWY 1 north of Alexandria that has pecans and Louisiana themed stuff for sale. Not sure what exit you'd take coming from the south.

All the local restaurants are pretty good, but service will probably be awful given the large number of people in town for the festival.

Wife and I are going Thurs/Fri the 17th and 18th! Are there any events (e.g. fireworks, music) on weeknights?

There may be tours of houses during the week that week. Not sure. Maybe the Chamber of Commerce website has info. Fireworks every Saturday in December and live music afterwards.

Anyone locals got any suggestions on where to park for the Christmas fest? The shuttle u I was was available is actually a park and ride from Natchitoches central high which is about as far away as downtown is. I'd much rather drive and just have the option to leave when I want .
