Some important story details missing, but rest assured there's no way a USN, Brit or Australian sub would blindly collide with this type of subsea obstacle.
Why are we taking for granted that a Chinese sub got caught in a Chinese trap instead of considering that a Chinese sub FAFO’d and the Chinese don’t want to lose face?

I find it neither tragic nor unfortunate.

What exactly do they mean by trap? Are they actively trying to sink US/UK Naval vessels?
Yeah, was wondering the same. Sounds like an act of war. Or at least it would be if we didn't have a president owned by Chy-na in the Oral office.

Because China has never been shy about trying to shift blame onto other nations when they play chicken with our vessels.
If we did what they considered to be a provocative attack, we’d have heard the screaming from here.

Could be but I don’t know. You asked so you tell me.
It’s a poorly written article. Chatbot? I have no way of knowing, other than what I stated about U.S. Navy sub capabilities is greatly simplified. Classified and all that shite.

steel or other type metal trap placed vertically in the water column is a significant structure, lighting up like a Christmas Tree on bow sonar.
US subs aren't running around with sonar going. Gives your position away. The quietest spot in the water is probably our sub.

Understood. What would they do in hostile Chinese waters? Run even more quiet. I’m making a wild guess this trap was set in shallow water, near a naval port. Setting them in the open ocean would be very hit and miss and a waste of resources.
Perhaps it was near one of those islands they’ve built in the South China Sea. I don’t know for sure just speculation.

Not sure, but his nephew Sum Ting Wong didn't.

If you don't think they're funny, make up your own funny chinaman name joke.
I'll wait.

So if they had trapped a US or British sub and had the same result, would that have been an act of war?
Of course not. We would have had an "independent" western country conduct a multi-year investigation only to declare it a navigational incident which was regretted by both countries.
This has been going on since at least Vietnam with the Navy, and certainly before. The USS Pueblo, the USS Liberty, all of this crap gets whitewashed. Since you got me started on the USN, your first job as a captain/crew is to not run into shite, and yet we do it repeatedly. But we need diversity objectives instead.

Kids can’t fricking steer the boat these days because of changes in training policies from what I’ve been told.
