Yes, treading in open ocean is harder than treading a pool. Are y'all really this stupid?

I didn’t say a pool. I said shallow water. Can you really not read?

stood in chest deep water on a sandbar on the ms river and you can feel the barges props pull the water from pretty far away

That's the hulls displacement doing that, not the wheels. The barges are displacing and pushing a lot of water, which pushes up ahead of the barge and recedes as it passes.

Falling alongside a ship probably wont get you sucked into the wheels. You'll likely get all manner of hacked up by the passing hull but you'll probably be in one piece. The hull is intentionally designed to pass the water at the waterline around the hull as smoothly as possible. Going down 15 feet would probably get you chopped up.

I wonder why these cruise ships don't send out several drones to track where the person(s) that have fallen overboard. That way the rescue boat can find them quicker.

Locating them isnt the problem. Getting a life boat manned and deployed and to them is the problem.

Cruise ships are absolutely retarded. You can make it as large and as luxurious as you want, its still a big arse boat. It comes with all the risks associated with living on a big arse boat. Fill it with idiots, kids, etc and bad shite is bound to happen.

Yeah, you might think you could...but you wouldn't last 15 minutes, which makes this story impressive

Those railings aren't all that is there. There is also a glass/plastic wall there. 100% that kid climbed over.

I assume the picture on page two is the ship it happened in and if so your statement above would be incorrect.

Yes, that picture is of the railing, but yes there is some kind of glass/plastic also covering that railing. That's how every Disney cruise ship is set up on that deck.

You can kind of see it in this pic:

But did he also fail to provide adequate supervision resulting in his child going over? This doesn't happen often does it?

Major props to dad. I would absolutely do the same thing, but it still takes balls of steel.

Another reason not to go on a cruise boat.

Balls of steel if it's someone else's kid. With my own kid, fear for their safety is what would make me react without hesitation.

With anyone but family I take a brief moment to assess, then the response requires balls.

I started to say most dads would do the same. But who knows, these days.

have cruised several times on Disney ships. The railings are not short. Sadly, the parents were probably not paying attention to the kid climbing up them. Thankfully, everything ended well."

The father apparently was very near to his daughter when she went overboard. He jumped in right after her in order to save her.
