There are 5 World Class cities: London, Paris, NYC, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
Chicago doesn't sniff that list.

Chicago in the summer kicks every city in America’s arse

I’ve lived in both for year or so. Totally diff vibe in NYC . Chicago my preference for logistical reasons. And I had a Boat on the lake for that year.

I take it you never been to the Bronx or the shitty areas of Brooklyn and Queens.

We take our 8:year old daughter to Chicago every December for Christmas. I only live about 4 hours away so we drive. It is always agrwat time and we never feel overwhelmed. Great museums and places to eat. Plus the people, are not total assholes like NY.

I like Chicago but the only answer is New York.

Why do you think New Yorkers are assholes?

Totally agree about the museums. Art and natural science in Chicago are awesome.
During my time in NYC, I found people aren’t a-holes, as long as you keep up with their pace. Fast pace and use the F word as a verb, noun, pronoun, adjective, etc.... and they actually treat you pretty nice.

They probably just have an adverse reaction to your horrible grammar. It’s atrocious.

NYC is going to win pretty much anything given it's basically the center of the world. It's really not a fair question given Chicago has, what, like 1/3 the population of NYC?
That said, Chicago is a great American city. Outstanding food thanks to the ethnic diversity, amazing museums, sports, it's a beautiful city, much cleaner than NYC, and better architecture. I'd take the Chicago skyline over the skyline of Manhattan.
This is the view from behind the Adler Planetarium from some steps that go to the lake's shoreline. Incredible view in person:
I'm a Chicago native so I'm biased but, really, it's an incredible American city.
