So I always thought New Orleans was bad, but I’ve been in Chicago this week and there have been 17 murders in 17 hours including a 15 year old.
All things considered it feels similar to NOLA. A safe area and a very unsafe area. I have had no issues personally but damn!

chicago was able to hide their crime stats for decades, while their residents pointed fingers at other cities.
well, their broke asses need federal money and began to report their murders and violent crimes(under report, they give lower numbers than the correct ones), and it's shown what many knew, chicago is one violent city, worst in US.

Of all the murders in Chicago over the past few years, can we get an accurate tally on the murder by race count? Is it predominately black? Or is it quite a few whites? What about Hispanics?

Wait until summer. There was a recent July where they had over 230 shootings.

With all the shite that goes on in Chicago, you will not see any of it in the areas you are most likely staying/visiting. Unless you walk a few blocks leaving White Sox stadium at night.

No it isn’t. I don’t know anyone who’ve experienced that.
With that said, the creepiest crime I’ve heard of this year was by a white guy killing his girlfriend because he was jealous. A guy I know was a firefighter in RiverNorth and for some reason, they went in before the police and he said their were bloody handprints of the girlfriend all over the walls.
