The shots continued after Laquan, who was 17, collapsed onto the street.

No he won't. No chance he goes into general population.

I just fear that we are going to have a lot less qualified law enforcement in the future because the talent pool is going to be really small, because who honestly would want to be a cop these days?
how's that different from the current talent pool?

So he had a knife. I guess I would have to see the video.

That’s my point. It’s already not great...is villainizing cops going to make it better or worse?

There’s a fundamental difference it wanting Law Enforcement to be better and making them an enemy/something to be hated and disrespected. It’s where I think protestors, current BLM/Kapernick thought process, and the media is getting it way wrong.

Prayers sent to everyone in Chicago, especially the Chicago Police Department, over these next few days.

Just to clarify, in Illinois, 2nd degree murder is very similar to a voluntary manslaughter conviction. Sentencing guidelines call for 4 to 20 years, but even probation is allowed. His bigger issue is the 16 counts of aggravated battery with a firearm for which he was convicted.

quote:

Second-degree murder was previously called voluntary manslaughter in Illinois, and it can be a complicated charge for jurors to understand. It requires jurors to find that the prosecutors have proved all the elements of first-degree murder. Then they must decide whether the defense has shown “it is more probably true than not true” that Van Dyke believed he was justified, but that belief was unreasonable. Second-degree murder carries a lighter sentence than first-degree murder, but also less than aggravated battery. Second-degree murder does not carry mandatory prison time — offenders can be sentenced to four to 20 years in prison or even receive probation. In Illinois, those convicted of second-degree murder typically serve about half their sentence.

Aggravated battery with a firearm is defined as knowingly discharging a firearm and causing injury to another person. An aggravated battery with a firearm conviction carries a sentence of at least six to 30 years in prison — and 85 percent of that time must be served.

And of course people are still protesting and shutting down streets in the loop.

The reason appears to be that, uh, politicians were too quiet during the trial.

I mean, they took time to make signs and go downtown, can’t just leave cause he’s guilty I guess.

I wonder how many are secretly disappointed in the verdict (which I agree with FYI)

Some cops are trigger happy now-a-days.

I won't dispute this, but you phrase it like it's new. SOME cops have always been trigger happy.

What I think you'll find in greater abundance now are cops afraid to be the next Officer Wilson (aka crucified by the media).

And it's affecting their good judgment.

The statistic we will never know is how many cops have been killed as the result of undue hesitation.

That blood is solely on the hands of the media, spineless command staff and SJWs.

Called it. They just want to be angry, they don’t actually GAF about this random black dude or the cop. They just want a scalp and a “win” in their boring, meaningless lives.

I bet more than 85% of the folks here supported the policeman after this story came out. Can anyone find that thread?

Sentenced from birth. The cop was simply the executioner; he beat another gang banger to the punch.

One thing that did the cop in was the fact that several other officers already on the scene didn't feel the need to shoot.
