That's a freedom you get to always do.
A cop sometimes doesn't get that much time to react.

We are making a case for a cop shooting someone involved in some capacity to a crime with a gun, and then said person running when confronted, and then said person turning and facing an officer after running with a firearm in their hand

Doesn't matter, he's an accomplice and had a gun. frick him, we're better off without him breathing our air.

You seem to keep glossing over the fact that him raising his hands and dropping the gun are both things the cop yelled at him to do.

He's got the gun in hand as hes turning. The image is clear. He's trying to hide the fact he has a gun.

The reasonable person standard.

What would a reasonable person have done, considering all the information and training that this cop had at the time.

Until you’ve looked down the business end of a Glock after chasing a perp in the middle of night on some low lite street, you won’t know.

Cops are given the ability to reasonably use force in advance of being shot or battered. You take that away and NO ONE will ever put on a vest, strap up, and head out to serve a community of color.

The brave, toughest cops choose to serve communities of color not because they are racists but because they know they can help the most people there.

Let that sink in for a minute.

I suggest if you ever run from a cop after being a party to a gun crime, you drop your gun and raise your hands before turning to the cop

They can't see him drop the gun though. The gun is hidden, he tosses it, turns, and raises his hidden hand. I think it's a bad shot but I can understand why the cop, in real time, would think differently. In an ideal world the kid would have kept his hand at his side, dropped the gun, then slowly raised his hands. He's 13 though so likely that never crossed his mind. Can you fault the cop for making a split second decision in that instance though?

He still has the gun as he turns.

He was definitely trying to hide it.

Anyone saying they definitely wouldn't shoot is lying.

As I said earlier and was downvoted to hell, the only way out of this situation for both parties is the officers to stop pursuit and obtain the suspect at a later date that’s more beneficial to the officers.

Otherwise, officer pursuits of a suspect with a gun are going to result in suspects being shot justly, officers being shot, or suspects being shot unjustly on occasion due to stress. You simply can’t train perfection into people when stress is involved. I don’t understand why this is such a hard concept. It sucks, but that’s life.

Holy shite. Are you? Do you know there’s a difference between “possession” (on one’s person) and being at the ready, ie the gun is in the hand of a fleeing perp? God damn son

It doesnt matter. Kid still had it while turning toward officer. The kid was trying to hide the handgun.
