I'm going in July to some Cubs games and I don't know where to stay. Does anybody have any tips? I'm looking for something close to Wrigley that won't break the bank.

Was going to recommend TheWit, but then I read your post and realized you sound poor.

We stayed at the Radisson Blue about a year or so ago. We enjoyed it. Not your typical Radisson.

eta: Yeah, I missed the "cheap" part...

Well, I'm planning to be there for a week, so, I'm not looking for a $1000 a night type place.

Hotel Palomar

We LOVED it. Get the Spa King Room. It has a huge spa bath tub and shower.

For us, the Palomar seemed to be with-in walking distance to evrything we wanted to see.

Spend your money on bulletproof armor. Sleep in cardboard box.

Hilton Parmer House, The Westin Chicago North, Hard Rock Hotel and Swissotel are all good choices.

For "less expensive" hotel, Hampton Inn located off Michigan Avenue and across from Morton's Steakhouse (and down street from Hard Rock) is nice and new.

The Omni I stayed at there, downtown was the nicest Omni i've seen. I don't remember rates, but it may be sorta reasonable.

When we went to Chicago we stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown Chicago.

However, it's not cheap.

Hotel Burnham on Washington ave. It's a kimpton hotel...just a couple blocks from mag mile and millenia park. Great location and short walk to the river.

P.S. Public transportation in Chicago is awesome. Every bus driver could tell you what train or bus to get to just about any location.

We stayed downtown, I took buses/trains to Wrigley, Soldier Field and didn't get lost

We always stay at the Hilton Garden Inn on East Grand Street. Location is absolutely awesome and to get to Wrigley you'll want to jump on the red line. There is a red line station across the street from this hotel. Weber Grill is also in the hotel and has awesome breakfast.

Palmer House Hilton.

ETA - the Palomar isn't bad and should be cheaper. Free wine social nightly.

Bid on a 3-1/2 or 4 star in River North on Priceline.

I got the Langham, which is a 5 star for 200 a night. You should be able to get a 3-1/2 star for 125ish and it'll be a holida inn or residence in or something decent. However, summertime is in high demand so you may have to bid higher.

So, is staying in Wrigleyville a bad idea?
