Craziest part of this story is that I learned that Fukushima was 10 years ago.

Fook mi, the time flies.

Can they not just fly a helicopter right over it and dump some stuff on it?

I couldn't completely wrap my mind around the second half of this report, so, hope it works out for us.

Not great, not terrible.

Seems like some of my detractors haven’t seen the show.

That place is so heavily watched and monitored...would be a terrible idea.

They should put a series of boilers on top if it and at least get some power generation out of it.

Maybe that chunk of Chinese rocket aimlessly headed on a collision course back to earth will land on it.

The New Safe Confinement project they built over it all is neat, I thought that was gonna kick the can down the road another 50-100 years. I guess not

I didn’t watch the documentary, but I am guessing it didn’t mention that a French engineering company has been on the site for a decade building a new containment shelter. There have been thousands of construction workers on the site building it, and it is being done in two stages. The first stage is in place over the reactor and can be seen easily on Google earth. There was a documentary about it on Nova or something like t.

The sarcophagus is a shelter that covers the whole plant pretty sure. The nuke plant is all inside now.

One idea is to develop a robot that can withstand the intense radiation for long enough to drill holes in the FCMs and insert boron cylinders, which would function like control rods and sop up neutrons.

Scientists and engineers built a rover that can take core samples on the face of Mars, but we do not possess the skills as humans to do so here on Earth?

Maybe that rogue Chinese rocket will land on top of Chernobyl in 2-3 days.
