I always forget to change those damn things.
I'm surprised at the OT for being so candidly ignorant about cabin filters I guess b/c I been driving the same model car (Honda Accord) for 20 yrs, I knew about these. They are pretty expensive but don't need to be changed as much as the engine air filter. They will definitely make your sinuses better or worse if you drive alot down here(a/c on with recirc).

Never changed this in my 2017 truck and have noticed a slight sour smell when I first cut the A/C on a couple weeks ago.
Guess I need to change it.

They bring those out to every customer at the Honda dealership
It's cheaper to change it out myself
I change both the cabin one and the engina air filter as well and save about $100 in labor charges from the dealership

AC Smell is different and a bitch to clean up. Mold/Mildew in the system.

Now that makes sense why I know about it. Yea they are $15 or so at AutoZone and cheaper online. They'll run you $40 at the oil change/service center.

I guess I grew up with vehicles that didn't have these and its just not something that I think about.
Her Accord is a 2012 and it had never been changed. Mine is 3.5 years old and it never has either.

They really do NOT need to be changed for anything other than smell/allergies.
I'd change mine every 100k miles.

Changed mine after three years last week. Was dark but not that bad, AC does blow a little harder though.
I had the new filter in the garage for a year but kept putting off changing it because some MENSA candidates at Ford decided to require you to not only drop down the glove box but also remove part of the dash around the glove box to get to the filter. 2017 F250, no truck nuts.

They also sell activated carbon filters. K&N makes a washable.

No, I do as well. Every year, in all 4 cars, when the pollen and catkins from the huge live oak in our yard have finished dropping.
