Very sad boomers and x'ers are doing such an awful job teaching them.

Wasn't it Leno who used to ask questions you assume everyone should know to college aged people on the street?

Well I'm on the back end of Millenials just before Gen Z and I just got an 86 year old 4 volume biography set for valentines day that's been taking up most of my free time. Hopefully if there's enough young people like me doing that we aren't totally fricked.
ETA: I also spent most of last night reading an encyclopedia and primary source documents from colonial and antebellum America.
How about the problem is the damn teacher is on Tik Tok in the middle of class?????

What I'm trying to say is there are plenty of outrageously nerdy young people. But my dad did the same stuff and impressed the same love of history on me as did my mothers family who all have a deep reverence for American (and to a lesser extend, world) history.

this country is done.

Robert E Lee. It won the pulitzer prize. The same author has a 7 volume one on Washington. It also won the pulitzer.

Welcome to what happens when you give your children iPads rather than your attention.

so what were all the Gen Xers excuse when Leno did his bit in the 90s?
just dumb?
just dumb?

skateboards and whippets
ETA: but to your point... you are comparing Leno finding random people in the street and then editing it down to the select few that were dumb to this teacher having a classroom of kids who don't know the most important, basic info in recent history. Sure this video could very well be edited down, but this is a trend we are seeing with new generations: they are fully absorbed by social media where fake lives and news lies dominate their brains. Any wonder we are seeing more and more of them ignorant to reality?
Yes there are dumb people everywhere in all moments of time; however, our current environment is showing us that it's a bursting bubble

most of the general public doesn't know much about events that happened before they were alive. my dad is a brilliant engineer and other than events that happened during his life he is probably the most historically ignorant person that I know. Not being interested in history does not mean that somebody is not intelligent.
ETA: I was always a big reader so I had at least a general knowledge of world history when I was younger. I also took history electives whenever possible. I have friends who couldn't care less about history until they were in early 30s or so.

I'm sure your dad knows who Hitler is though. Not being interested in History means not knowing details along with less significant people and events. Not knowing Pearl Harbor? Yeah that's a big negative.

You can tell that teacher is a huge pussy that's probably teaching his own SJW brand of history

I get Helen Keller and Ann frank confused. Ann Frank was the one in the closet and Helen Keller has no ears and was blind

Looks like he is new to the school and trying to see where they stand on knowledge. Or its all for show
