That changes things a bit, seems like a much more manageable shot now that we've seen the shooter's vantage point

Allegedly, he told people close to him that if he turned on Israel that they would kill him. Internet gossip of course but some of his takes make you wonder.

Theyre saying he was wearing a metal chest plate that might have deflected it like that. Dont quote me on it...

You can see the outline of his chest in his tshirt in the pictures from the side just before the shot and the videos of him walking on stage as the event started. He had nothing on under the shirt for protection.

It is a disabled veterans land of the free home of the brave shirt.

I was beat to the punch.

Campus PD isn't doing a security "sweep" for this that includes tops of buildings and who knows how many people Charlie had

Never said anything about campus PD, I'm talking about Charlie's security team. He had at least a handful of guys. And when I said sweeps I meant visually, not walking every inch of the place.

I'm not blaming anyone. I'm saying that these type of events, even with the highly regarded US secret service involved, can be a nightmare. I don't think anyone would ever expect a surprise sniper attack on him.

I’ve heard that theory too, but that seems highly unlikely. I can’t imagine his security team would allow that for that very reason. Not to mention there are WAY more/better options for body armor than that.

Seems crazy no one looked up when doing security sweeps, but it doesn't sound like there was a whole lot of coordination between Kirk's security and other LE.

A political activists' security team can't be expected to effectively defend against this sort of attack at an open air event on a college campus.

I HIGHLY doubt the university would allow staging counter-sniper teams. Aerial surveillance would be the only realistic option, and that would still require some incompetence on the shooter's part to be effective.

If you recall back to Butler PA and the attempt on Trump, I remember there being an uproar about the lack of communication between agencies. People spotted the shooter getting in position and no one that mattered knew about it until after the shots were fired.

This is very unsurprising, and totally tracks. I'm honestly surprised the Butler shooter got engaged as quickly as he did.

I think it was the top tier, near the label for UVU Women's Success Center (ironically). He was on gravel roof.

That's around 175 yards then.

The entrance was clearly visible slightly left of center, lower half of his neck. You can't see the exit, and you don't know if the bullet tracked straight, so there are no way to draw any conclusions from anything shown other than he was shot in the neck with a rifle.

Ah, gotcha. I saw the video a few times but didn’t analyze it that closely.

Maybe I'm just wired differently but, I could not see myself killing another human being. Unless it was them or me. Even then I'd probably be fricked up for life.

Man, yall have to remember this isn't the president with a real security detail. He probably had a local contracted outfit with just a few guys and little / no surveillance equipment. With that other building corner right there, he could have taken the shot with only a second or two of exposure to the podium.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I don't feel like a controversial political activist holding a debate on free speech alley at LSU would have solicited a real security operation. I'd be surprised if there were more than a handful of campus cops loitering around dicking off on their phones.

I agree.

He wasn’t an elected official - or even that well known. Maybe some random security guy goes the extra mile or something, but expecting rooftop sweeps and shite for a 31 y/o political activist at a college campus in Utah is a little much, IMO.

I'm in my early 30's and didn't know who he was until yesterday.

I don't think the schools would allow a real security detail anyway. If they had a real security event every time a controversial public figure did something on a college campus, they might as well build battlements on all the buildings and keep them manned 24'7.

I know he started questioning a few things, but for the most part he was a huge ally of Israel.

Sure thing, it was the Mossad Tranny Brigade that killed Charlie.
