People that use that as an argument against tipping just make themselves sound like socially awkward idiots.
:(
I tip because it's expected, but I would love to see society go towards a non-tipping future

Waiting tables at really high end restaurants is difficult
And that is why you won't see some pimply faced 18 year old waiting on you in those places. They only hire very experienced servers that know how to properly wait on higher end customers.
I was meaning your typical restaurant that you get a job in with not having much serving experience.

I don't know why that is the law, but it is. So I tip
I fail to see the correlation with tipping Walmart workers

Why though? How is it gonna benefit you so much?
Just curious

Both are providing services, and represent the company in face on face interaction with the customer.

The same reason I don't need to see every single thing I've ever purchased broken down to the nth degree on the receipt, and the same reason I want product costs to show applicable taxes on them. Just tell me how much I owe, and I'll decide if I want to eat there or not.
Also, it forces people who don't tip to contribute to the payroll. Ironically, I tip well even though I hate the practice, so it would probably save me money in the long run.

Instead the group will give workers a raise wages and the dining experience will get more expensive. Meyer will hike menu prices by 21-25 percent, and customers can expect to pay almost 10 percent more than they currently do for a full meal plus the tip, Forbes notes.
This paragraph gave me a fricking headache.. So basically they expect me to pay an average of 10% more than I usually would with tip.. frick that.. Personally I don't mind the move at lower and middle prices restaurants as long as I don't see an overall avg increase.. Screw this on a higher end restaurant where the customer experience relies heavily on the motivation of the server

e never worked as a server but I've eaten out enough and come in contact with enough of the general public to know it's not an easy job and to appreciate it
I was young when I got my first service job so I didn't realize how tough it was until then.
People can be a-hole when it comes to their food order and when you work at a lower end establishment they can be downright unbreable.

Really? The USA has probably 8 to 12 restaurants in the top 50 in the world. I'm pretty sure the other 42-38 have some damn good service.

And there will still be a tip jar at the register.

What cash register?
Your dining out experiences consist of Waffle House and buffets?

The hike in wages isn't incentive? Do your job or GTFO. It works in every other industry.

Guess you've never been to a shake shack.

Sounds like they will lose their best servers though. If so, you'll be paying more for lower quality service.
But they will get better cooks. I am more interested in a how good the cook is compared to how well someone can carry a tray to my table.

What are you, a dumb arse or something? If waiters don't provide good customer service you fire them.

Do you get tips at the hospital? Do you provide poor service if your patients don't tip you?

European service is slow as frick.
Europeans just don't hover over your table and ask you if it's good every five minutes. I prefer that to the flaired out waiter culture we have here.
