I know with centipede grass you have to till the dirt, put down good soil, make sure the seed is slightly covered, keep it moist yada yada yada. Screw all that.

I have a medium-sized spot in my back yard that needs grass. If I just drop some seed on the lossened up soil, will it grow?
I want it to match the other so it needs to be centipede

What is medium sized?

But to answer your question, yeah just break up the soil on the bare spot, add a thin layer of top soil then throw seeds on and water a bit each day. Will grow.

No. At least not that expensive grass seed Lowes and Home Depot sells. Complete waste of money.

Sure, just gotta provide adequate water...it needs to be planted pretty shallow and dries up quickly in this heat.

Save yourself time and buy however much sod it will take to cover your spot

Trust me. Just buy sod. Tilled the back yard x2 and seeded it. Then eventually had to buy sod and do it the right way

Put down sod in the front.
Trying to find the laziest way possible outside of hiring someone.

Sod will be way easier than dealing with seeding and caring for it over the next two months

Laziest way is leave it be and let the weeds turn it green. Worked great for me. Centipede eventually spread to cover it after a few years.

For the billionth time, how big is the spot? It matters as to how to reply to your lazy arse

Is it trashy to have a backyard with different grass types? Asking for a friend.

That grass seed you are buying is likely very expensive and 90% mulch. Buy a square of sod and be done baw

Good grief. Get some more sod (St. Aug) you got last time and be done with it.

Absolutely not. If you want to seed, seed the spot, buy a timer and sprinkler, set the sprinkler to go off for 10-15 minutes every 6 hours and leave it that way for a few weeks. Then start spacing out the intervals to twice a day for 30 minutes. Then after a couple more weeks go to once per day.

Or just do sod and lots of water.

Ask this question in the spring. Until then you are wasting your money trying to grow centepide from seed.

Found out I have Centipede. But I did put the St. Aug down and it looks good. I just want to rest to match. They were out of sod when I called that guy. Called around too.

If the spot is due to shade...good luck.
