Their ears are longer than their snout so you have to get a spaniel bowl for them to drink water. Otherwise they get ear infections from being wet all the time.
Forest Creek Cavaliers in Shreveport is the best breeder in the South. They always get dogs from England to keep up the breed genetics.

That's what got me started with the breed. Broke up with a woman, missed the hell out her dog so much I went and got Louis XIV ten years ago. He is still here, sound asleep next to me. Best dog ever
As for the ears, I get his trimmed on a regular basis. Get them shaved on the inside every few months. Increases air flow to ears and lowers risks of yeast infections or ear mites although he has never had the problem.

Good dog but not worth the money. My Aunt has two and my neighbor had one. All died young from issues related to inbreeding. FYI, all three came from different breeders.

My $600 one is 13. Had one who cost several thousand die a year ago a week short of ten.
I've rescued 15 over the years, half from puppy mills they usually live to ten or so. Had two reach 14 out of the bunch.

We put our 13 year old down last Monday. He gave us 3 more years thant he Vet thought he would. Upon her first diagnosis we bought a ruby one to take his place. So now we have a 3 year old grieving horribly. We will get another one in February to take the old guy's place and to help this one get over the loss of his big brother. They really are the best dogs out there regardless of their medical issues.
