I believe the orange gene in a female generally results in a calico cat

A calico requires genes from both X chromosomes to create the pattern. That's why a calico is always* a female (same for a tortoiseshell).

* There's about a 1 in 8 million chance for a male calico. He would have to have Klinefelter's syndrome.

Have you never handled a kitten? Their little claws will tear you up.

They will have everyone wondering what happend to your hands the next day but it isn't that big of a deal. I noted before as soon as you get ahold of them get the nape of the neck it is like an off switch.

OP mentioned that tuna drew them close. Get a Churu they smell like a tuna's a-hole, but cats will run from a block away when they smell them. It makes it less likely you have to make an arms-length snatch.

The calicos were the only ones that came out to me. The others ran under the fence when I approached.

My daughter likes the one standing up closest to the camera. So she’s the target.

lol. That’s why we love calicos. Sweet cats. She picked a good one. That black patch on the eye.

Go ahead and bring the triplets home.

I just went over to scope the situation. We were going to set a trap, but a little tuna on my finger brought them in close. I could have grabbed one, but I don’t have any supplies. I’m going to get the stuff my daughter needs for the cat and go back in the next day or so…

They socialize so much faster when you have a sibling or two. I caught a litter of kittens at my parent's house, 3 at first then one female a few weeks later, the first three socialized into the sweetest group within a few days, Gerber chicken, ham, turkey baby food is the best for them. After I got them into an adoption agency where they quickly found good homes, I caught the sister who was much more of a challenge. Took a full week to get her comfortable and checked out with a vet, once cleared of anything like FIV I let her loose with the adult cats and she got much friendlier.

The calicos are beautiful. If you’re going this route, take both.

Absolutely. A feral kitten showed up at our house about 10 years ago. She was there every evening-sometimes with other grown cats-and we started feeding her. My grandson named her, and my plan was to get her spayed and return her to her colony. It took about a month before she would come to me; I kept moving the food a little closer each day until I could pick her up. Took her to be vetted and “she” was actually a “he”. Got him neutered etc and as it turned out, he claimed our patio as his “colony”. So now I have a male “feral” cat named after a Disney princess who really doesn’t want to go outside unless the temps are in the 70’s.

You spelled cats wrong. You need to add an S for the plural. Just grab two. They are actually so cute and it’s a great sign that they came up. You’ll end up with two cats anyways. Just start now. I’m a little hesitant on the feral part but they’re so cute I couldn’t take spitting and hissing seriously. Just always wash and clean any bites and scratches.

try to get at least two to keep. Even if they ain't be the ones you want, she will grow to love them regardless.

Back in the 80's in college my live in GF insisted we have a lil calico kitten from the ruins of a former trailer park behind a friends rental house. I caught it easily enough and being at the friends house the 3 of us played with it for a few hours before we brought it home with us.

The next couple of weeks lots of friends and classmates were asking why we had big purple blotches on our arms and legs. It was the iodine from painting the ringworms we caught from the kitten.

We took the cat back where we got it to enjoy the feral free life.

I think there are better options than a feral kitten for your daughter. The wild kitten will likely claw her up, you should find one that has been handled. Check the paper for free kittens.

You’re trying to snag a feral cat to bring home for her because you’re too cheap to pay the $10 adoption fee at the shelter ?

CAA does $10 tuesdays

Here’s what you want

Be aware. Even the little ones will bite the fire out of you. They get past it pretty quickly once they figure out that you’re the food guy.

Can they be domesticated once they’ve grown up feral? I always thought not, or maybe it varies.

Guy I know caught a cat that looks to be the same size as those kittens on our farm. It went nuts when he grabbed it. I asked him about it about 3 days later and he said it would run up to his daughter and climb all over her the very next night after he caught it. Said it used a litter box immediately. No problem at all.

Its possible, the younger you can get them, the better odds. We've had plenty of experience. It literally could take a year, if you get a feral older cat .sometimes they'll never become fully domestic. It can vary cat to cat.
Example, we got 2 cats, about 6 months old, both wete hissing and spitting at us at first. A short while later , o e became friendly to us. Months later, the second one did. The second one is still skittish around us, but overall friendly now
