Also, some are being put in places that aren't as easy to access.
GM has them up against the exhaust manifolds which would seemingly make it hard as hell to get from underneath with a sawzall.
Yet Car and Driver claims they are #2 on the most stolen cats list behind the F150.
Tundra didn't even make the list which makes me question their methodology. Granted, there's nowhere near as many on the road but they are the easiest of all to get at.

With that O2 sensor cut it'll won't run correctly. Wouldn't try driving it to NOLA

I cut one off a Z71 one time. It was loud as shite since it waa a V8 and it terminated right under the driver seat, but I drove a year or two with it before I had enough. Oh to be 16 again.
Check engine light will turn on.
Fyi, Honda Elements are very popular with the catalytic thieves. I only know a few people still driving Elements but they have all had it stolen. They took my brother's in about 20 seconds according to the security video, but it was to grainy to make out details for the police.
You may want to invest in a cage or some of the aftermarket anti theft devices that are available.

I’ve got a Tacoma in Houston. I’m researching catalytic converter shields. F’n thieves.
What year? Third gens from 2016 on moved the position of the converter up by the headers so they are harder to steal. The thieves are looking for the easy ones like Tundras, Elements, etc.

would possession of such a cutting device by someone without a reason to have it be reason for a search warrant?
Probably not, all they use is a SawZall which tons of people have. The solution is cracking down on the junk yards that buy them no questions asked.

Toyota only makes about 120,000 Tundras a year

Yeah that doesn't sound right at all. They love Tundras because they don't need a jack and it has 4 converters on it. Having the converter up by the header makes it much harder. But it has only been a recent development that manufacturers moved the converter to make it harder to steal.

That will cause a LOT of reverberation and vibrate under her seat....
She may or may not want the car fixed.

Exhaust fumes coming in through the floor board would concern me especially if stuck in traffic

GM put them up near the manifold long before cat thievery became a big thing. Pretty sure they have been that way since the LS engines came out in the late 90s.
Closer to the engine means more heat which lights them off faster.

Memory was bad. Silverado was #5. Econoline vans made the list while the Tundra didn't, so... Probably not totally accurate.

My brother had one stolen off his Sequoia in Houston earlier this year. He was looking at shields as well but dunno whether he had one installed.

Got it. Makes sense. I dont know much about GM vehicles. I just know some of manufacturers weren't helping their customers avoid this issue until recently. Um, cough, cough Toyota, Honda, etc.

Or she could have a whistle tip installed instead. Remember that shite!? LOL. Glad that didn’t catch on down here.

Tundra’s seem like the number 1 target for these pieces of shite. They stole my father-in-law’s from his tundra and I know a few other guys who got hit too

Windows down partially. Carbon monoxide will be bad especially with out O2 sensors regulating fuel.

Sheesh, I've never had anything stolen in Alabama. New Mexico was a different story, and I moved. Why do you guys put up with this shite?

Assholes nicked a fuel line when they got mine (Tundra parked off Sherwood about a year ago). I drove it to Price Leblanc (less than 3 miles), and besides sounding like a top fuel dragster, the gas fumes gave me a headache in just that short distance. Of course, every light on the dashboard was lit up. Pretty sure driving 300 miles or more would've been out of the question.
Assuming there's no fuel leak, she could probably limp it home without damage to the vehicle. It would just be a PITA, especially if she encountered standstill traffic anywhere along the way.
I had the dealer install the anti-theft plates on mine afterwards. Wife had told me to get them a few months beforehand. I'll go to my grave without living that one down.
