They were strays that someone dumped off and my Wife began feeding them. We tried to bring them inside to prevent this sort of thing from happening but they are absolutely terrified of the indoors. I'm assuming whoever dumped them off in our neighborhood had them locked up in a room for an extended time. They would just absolutely run in circles and jump into the closed door repeatedly for hours until you let them back out. When they are outside they are loving and normal cats that you would never know had been abused.

I cannot see how anyone that has had an animal for that long can just give it away because they don't want it anymore! Imagine being a kid and your parents dropping you off to a strange place and never returning. That's what i think of every time i hear stories like this.

I don’t agree with dumping loyal pets either but other side of the coin: Elderly pets are expensive and some people don’t have the money.

Yeah, but there's an easy fix for that: Don't get a pet in the first place. Cats especially can live a pretty long time, and I for one can't imagine getting rid of a friend I've lived with for 20 years because they start needing things that cost more money. We've had a couple of cats and one dog that turned out to be "expensive" for various reasons, but damn, I don't know how any human with half a heart can look in their eyes when they're hurting and not find a way to get then what they need. We'd have to be literally incapable of providing for them before re-homing was a consideration. They can be little shits sometimes, but they really do have feelings and it's not like they're hard to read.

Besides that, a cat that managed to walk 12 miles home can't be THAT old or unhealthy. Poor little bugger. He obviously trusted his a-hole family way more than they deserved.

I heard the shot and got up to go see what was going on since we live in the city limits and gun fire is unusual in our neighborhood. I opened the back door and see our cat laying by his water bowl bleeding out from a gunshot wound to his side. t

Should I get a husky? I live in Georgia, there are no trees in my backyard, and my wife refuses to let the dog inside.

I won't bother downvoting, but you're a dumbass.

It's interesting how you and TheOcean took certain things from my post that were not absolutes and then turned them into absolutes in order to make a joke.

Example:

quote:

My wife won’t ever let it come inside

Never said this. Said it couldn't be in all the time, mainly when we're away.

quote:

it’s going to be a big problem when the dog digs

Someone said they dig. I said that could be a problem. Not worried about the holes. Worried about it running off. Based on this and some other factors, I also said I would agree that it isn't likely a good fit.

quote:

But I really must have this husky.

See above. Never said or implied this.

As for the cat, story says it was a stray that didn't get along with their existing cats. They tried to re-home it and it walked back to their house (tomcats love the pussy).

At least they took it to the shelter. They could have done worse, as the shelter spokesperson pointed out. Still, not really sure why they requested to have it euthanized. That part is a bit disturbing.

Bc they’re just cool dogs. And supposedly the heavy fur coat actually keeps them cool. Somehow. It’s science. And there is some shade, just not a lot and none at high noon. Bc I removed all the trees for some reason.

I heard you can run husky's in the hottest part of the summer here in the south for 6-7 miles since their coat cools them in the summer

A good heavy fur coat is nature’s air conditioner.

Yeah, I posted in the other thread. Lots of people own them in hot climates. They need good shade and cool water but you already knew that. I’d suggest getting something for extra shade when the sun is at it’s highest, but otherwise It’d be fine.

As I was reading this thread, my right eye caught a glimpse of this Princess Leia Cat Costume ad at the edge of the screen that gave me a good laugh:

By the way, I hope the neighbor that shot the cat is in for an awful surprise.
