It would be a valid point if Rowling herself didn't already come out stating that Hermione could be black based on her description of the character
I for one dont care about her being black. I do care that she is very ugly and looks about 20 years older than Ron

No doubt...but keep in mind that James Patterson once said that he thought Tyler Perry was perfectly cast as his Alex Cross, so...

and we have had this exact conversation on the OT. It turns out that once in the book they refer to Hermione's white face, but this was supposedly due to being scared; however, you would most likely not describe a person of african decent as having "a white face" when scared.

Also, who gives a shite what color the actress is if there is no racial themes in the story? Sure, muggles vs wizards/witches can be seen as such an allegory, but there is no black v white story lines. So why the frick does it matter? Oh, that's right. People want to say they are not racist even when they get upset about the race of an actor portraying a fictional character.

Black Huck Finn? probably wouldn't work. White Shaft? probably not. Any color Hermione? 0 effect on the plot.

This the OT. You can just leave that logic BS outside.
yeah, you're right. logic dictates this is definitely something to get upset about.

Well we wouldnt have had to edit the book for the n word. It would be all A-ok for black Huck to use it. So unfair

Unless the book said extremely ugly, they casted wrong

Big teeth, brown eyes, and bushy hair was how she was described...

Looks to fit the description to me.

Some British SJW made Hermione black and what was jk supposed to say. No she's white I don't want black folks in my play.

book never says that Hermione is white

The book did have her wearing glasses and hanging out in libraries though.

I always thought she was really asian like Cho Chang but cast a spell out of race envy to make herself look white.

Effect on ticket sales and publicity?

I think people get upset with the extreme hypocrisy and finger pointing in racism. These days the media can basically label you racist for simply being white, but you can't call out that these producers may be changing the race of one of the main characters for the headlines it creates?

Get your head out the sand, there are 2 sides to every story.

If you close your eyes and think of the name Hermoine, you can see it being one of those "black" names.

When the real movie comes out, hopefully the cast will come back for it. The REAL cast. As for this, this is a play, who cares who play what role?

They have a black Annie, why not a black Hermoine, but if they want to be really legit, a Black Harry Potter would be better.

Also you bet your arse JK rowling will come out in support of this play. It makes her MONEY. She really have no dog in this fight.

Yeah. Hermionika. How cool and cutting edge to take something so widely accepted as a fact and throw such a curve to Potter fans. Very hip J. K.
If it has no bearing on the plot why do some celebrate the complete reversal of casting Hermione as white in the movies. If Rowling really meant for her to be black, do you think for one minute she wouldn't have put her foot down and made the producer cast her as black originally?
This stunt is pure sensationalism and done to get rave reviews by critics and media.
