Yep. The big dog at the law firm sees a big pay day for you and wants a bigger cut than he'd get if an underling handled it.

Partner to run up legal billing (more $/hour) and percentage of settlement that firm keeps.
what? no
if this is in LA it's 99.9999% a contingency and the fees are set regardless of who does what at the firm

That fricking sucks. The pain goes away, but the mental and physical scars last a long time. I hope you get some justice.
The mental/emotional part is what is killing me.

this is probably the answer. partner gets to put his/her name to it to get leverage when they settle up the firm's distribution of the settlement $

You should stop talking about your case on the internet.

In general what does this mean?
you really need this to be answered? partner sees the case is going to pay and wants it for himself

Dude, I do this type of stuff every day and you REALLY need to stop talking about your case on the internet.

The underling associate (I.e. Non-owner) is a W-2 already more than likely. The associate has either left and/or the owners of the law firm are jockeying for position amongst each other for allocation of the money that might come in from a settlement or judgment.

Bless her heart.
My grand daughter had a rather large dog run at her and jump on her when she was little. Thank God, she wasn't hurt; however, she has been terrified of dogs ever since.
I can only imagine how terrified your little one is, and I bet you and the Mrs. aren't very comfortable either. I hope it all works out OK, and in the end you guys can move on with your lives and things become more normal.
