When is the RFP going to be released on this project? I’m putting a bid in to clean this obstructed pipe with 10,000 gallons of draino!

I will say my favorite part is they estimated just viewing this single 3 mile canal that is for long stretches visible from land will cost 100k BEFORE removing a single piece of trash. That’s 100k to run a camera through it.
I've got an Iphone and some time. I'll do it for 90K.

A lot of missing persons will finally be found!

They aren't wasting any time... pulling the cars and other debris out today.
That's got to be a hell of an assignment for that dive team. "Son, today you are going to dive into this drainage canal, then swim to the covered part, and hook up the cables to these cars. You might find tons of trash, mardi gras beads, bodies, etc down there. Good luck"

Is anyone on scene or tracking this?
Would love to know how long the cars have been there...

A number of local media outlets are posting updates on their FB pages but I don't see any website links.
All the websites seem to be focusing on the Blanco funeral mass at the moment.

Yeah..I know now....I wasnt quite sure....I really didnt pay much attention.
So, anyway....does the Lafitte canal drain into Bayou St John right there were it intersects Jeff Davis? An the cars I assume are right there under where Jeff Davis cross the Greenway?

SWB is still trying to remove a car out of the Lafitte canal, but they’ve got a ways to go. The car is about two blocks away from the opening of the canal, in the middle of that field at the end of the video

I'm not sure, I would think so but The article isn't really that clear on what goes where
quote:
The canal itself includes an open-air portion along the Lafitte Greenway and only goes underground when it crosses Jefferson Davis. It carries water from Drainage Pump Station 2, which drains Mid-City and some areas in and around the Central Business District, to Drainage Pump Station 7, in City Park. From there, the water is carried through an outfall canal into Lake Pontchartrain.
Looks like it's directly under Jeff Davis where it splits and camp bow wow is

Yep...thats exactly where it is....look on Google Earth and you can see....and it appears the Lafitte canal drains into Bayou St John..why on earth isnt there a pump station right there?

I don't believe there is a connection between the Lafitte canal and Bayou St. John. If you look at the drainage maps on the S&WB website, seems like it must drain into Orleans Avenue canal, but the map isn't very detailed.

Paul Murphy @PMurphyWWL Just got confirmation a part of that submerged car broke loose.

Crew continues to try and pull a vehicle out of an underground drainage canal in Mid City. I appears either the cable on the tow truck just snapped or somehow came loose from the car. This could take a while. It’s wedged in a culvert about 2 blocks from the extraction site.

A decade or more of sitting in water will tend to cause some rust... which could cause breaks at joints.
