Looking for a trip to somewhere in the Caribbean in February for like 4-5 nights. Not an OT baller so cost is a factor and am mainly looking at cheaper places like Dominican, Jamaica, Bahamas etc...

I don't really see myself as an "all inclusive" kind of person but is that the best way to go? Anyone have any experience using VRBO in places like these?

Any advice for finding cheap airfare from ATL to these places. The cheapest I have found after a couple of weeks of looking is around $500. Does it ever get lower or is that just what I can expect to pay?

Any other advice that might be helpful would be appreciated as well.

Go all inclusive. You end up spending more in food and booze if you don't. It's safe to book directly through a resort. Many offer travel vouchers as part of the package.

Sounds like you should stick with Daytona or PCB.

You might as well vacation at one of the gulf beaches.

USVI for the win.

Flights in February are less than $600 RT each.

VRBO or moderately priced-hotels are available.

Good luck

Nope to Bahamas or Jamaica or the Dominican Repugnant or Mexico (only possible exception being Cozumel)

I agree, I don't really want to do Jamaica or Bahamas but had heard DR was pretty nice.

Couples Negril > Punta Cana Resort (Excellence)

If kids are going though? No.

Bahamas. Atlantis is excellent but pricey as hell. My friends have been twice. Once to celebrate engagement. Second with 2 kids. Loved it both times but $$$$$$

If I HAD to rate them:

Bahamas
Cozumel (not ANYWHERE else in Mexico for me)
Dominican
Jamaica

The Bahamas are corrupt as the others but functions a bit better.

Jamaica is horrible. Avoid.

It is stunningly beautiful, it would have been great fifty years ago.

All-Inclusive is the way to go if you like to drink as much as I do on vacation.

$500 is pretty decent for flights although I have gotten lucky and purchased tickets for under $400 a couple of times.

St Croix might be a good choice for you. Rentals are fairly priced there. The problem is that you've chosen the high season.

I'm not sure why everyone is disparaging Mexico. Cancun no, but once you get out of cancun across the way to the isle, or south along that coast, down to playa del Carmen and beyond, yes. That includes Cozumel.

Flights are pretty cheap. Can likely get direct into cancun.

Resorts are great. Most are all inclusive and you should do that to not have hassle.

Just my thoughts on Mexico.

Just returned from Puerto Aventuras, Mexico which is south of playa del Carmen. Paid 680 x 2 for business class and 1400 for a nice 3 BR condo for a week. Cheapest trip i have taken in a while.
