As a former car salesman I wish everyone thought this way. I sold cards a multitude of ways, but my favorite sale was a guy that asked me “how much did y’all pay for this car”. I showed him the invoice from the auction and the cost of getting the car ready to show. Told him if we make 2k I make 500 bones this week. He said hell that sounds fair, we all gotta get paid. But those folks are few and far between.

I'm that mark honestly. If you just have some honesty up front, I'll pay. When I feel the slightest dishonesty, I can't choose you.

Nah, they could make just as much being honest and getting more sales. There's always exceptions but most that end up settling for that job sucks arse.

In many cases this is true but a couple of years ago I needed to purchase a truck. Never owned a truck and knew nothing about Silverado packages and features and options. I also did not have 80k to spend. I had a lot of questions.
Made multiple trips to the dealership. Was never pressured. Questions answered. Great experience.

I had a lifetime of it, so no thanks. I really don't think you can match me in this one.

Those who work in the Insurance Industry are far worse than Car Salesman.

The real enemy in any car dealership is the finance guy who actually does the closing.

People are too stupid to realize that the finance manager and the sales manager are the one’s that really frick them in the arse
. Car salesman have no power on getting you a deal. Everything goes through the sales manager.

I think what aggravates me more about car salesman is how little they know about the car. If I was one I would be reading the owners manuals of all the models, know the differences of features in different trim lines, know what each feature does and know how to operate it, specs of the engine, transmission, etc. I spend most of the visit rolling my eyes because they don't know this info, or I have to educate them about the feature.
My last few purchases went OK. One salesman I basically showed him the buildout online and he came back with paperwork. One salesman was very cordial, well dressed, and professional, but before I ordered he hit me with a ridiculous market premium which I decided to pay due to an immediate need. I got over it after they delivered the car to me less than two months after I had ordered it, when others were waiting 6+ months for theirs. I guess the market premium pushed me to the front of the line. Also, I called him the next day to tell him I am looking elsewhere for a better deal while waiting for the car to be built. He respectfully understood and encouraged me to look elsewhere, and explained to me that they get bombarded with calls from affluent dealerships from California and NY wanting to buy their cars, and then they would sell them for a higher premium in their market. The dealership did not want to be taken advantage of by other dealerships by giving them a car which would be flipped to someone for a huge profit, hence the markup.
My last salesman was good. Just a car enthusiast who knew all the details of the car and did not hassle. He helped shave off their markup money because they wanted to sell to a local, as the dealership is newer and I assume they are trying to establish longtime customers. He told me he would often get people flying in from the middle east wanting to buy in bulk of their hard to get models.

Same experience I had when I bought my last car. In-demand model and I got it with no ADM b/c I was local and a nice trade-in

Found the guy who can't read.

I treat every salesman the same way. At first we're cordial. Then we're friendly. And right before he swings for the fences, I take out both knees by pointing out the shitty sales tactics he's used so far.
At that point, he knows he's caught. 90% of the time, people admit the charade and we work toward an actual agreement. (EDIT: That we both find acceptable. They need to make money, I'm not interested in getting screwed). The scum bags are the 10% who double down.

They are 1 tier below a lawyer on the worse shite persons totem pole...
They do nothing but lie and rip people off for a check.
And for some people that's OK with them...

Just like real estate agents, relics of the past on their way out.

I no longer deal with salesmen.
