I keep hearing about these cars that last forever. I don't seem to be the one buying them.
It's probably you. My parents are awful on vehicles and get more mileage out of their cars than you do. Although, I will give you pass for the Honda, they had some transmission problems a decade or so ago.

You are under the assumption you can pick an investment that will create better than 3.8% return for 20 years.
Are you implying this is hard to do? Over the course of the last 120 years it has been damn near impossible to best 3.8% in the market over that time frame.

Cars last 200-300K miles now and new ones aren't cheap.

Well some of the higher end models were up there, i'm not saying all trucks are 55k but I couldn't find many decent ones under 33k
The loaner the dealership gave me yesterday while my car's transmission is getting replaced is a 2019 Ford F150 FX4 Super Crew Cab. That thing drives and rides pretty damn good.
Found the window sticker behind the seat.. $52,411. It has about every option other than leather. Weird to me it doesn't have leather at that trim level.

if it is the King Ranch leather that's probably why, cheapest, worst quality leather I've ever seen in a vehicle, not sure why the stick with it

How it it me? I'm not some young kid racing it around doing jackrabbit starts and treating the cars like crap. I drive as easy on cars as anyone.
Transmission problems probably go to JATCO, the company that makes all these failing CVT tranmsissions for everyone other than Toyota and Honda (these two companies have their own transmission manufacturing).

I'd bet just about anything it's an XLT, and is missing many more options than just the leather.

I just bought and a new, small car for less than 13k OTD. Power everything, back up can, apple car play, etc.
I’ve been told that can’t happen tho

You have 3 vehicles with premature transmission issues.

Oh good, the CVT boogieman is coming up now.

Without knowing your down payment, that doesn't mean much

4K. Amount financed about 9k
Maybe I misused OTD. I’d have to look at the contract
Forgot about 2k trade, but regardless, there are cheap new cars to be had... they just ain’t what you want to be seen in

Had one as a long term rental when some drunk chick ran into my parked car. I was surprised with how nice it is. I think the new ones are pretty sharp too.

The OT wants cheaper cars, but they also think back up cameras, Apple car play, etc are standard. They still make the plain Jane base model 4 door truck that you could buy 15 years ago, and it's not any more expensive in real dollars today than it was then. The difference is there's 10k worth of electronics in the "standard" models of today.

Yep. This is all my Dad buys.
I didn't know they still made vehicles with manual windows, but my Dad still manages to find them

While you did disprove the premise people were throwing around in here, I can count on one hand how many people would actually want to drive that.
But that discussion is probably for another thread.
You can def get new vehicles in the 18-22k range factoring in haggling and discounts. It's just the kind of car people won't absolutely have to have.

FWIW, data from LendingTree

Seriously, a 4 year old iPad has more tech in it than vehicles today.
