Manufacturers might have stumbled onto something. Keep supply low and demand high = more profit for manufacturers and dealerships.
Granted I don’t know anything about the auto industry, but why would a manufacturer keep inventory low so that a dealer can mark it up more?
Isn’t the manufacturer the wholesaler, and the dealer is the independent retailer? The manufacturer doesn’t make any more money if the dealer marks their price up more because the supply is low. Wouldn’t the manufacturer want to ramp up production as quickly as they can because they make the same profit per unit sold so the way they increase profits is by increasing units produced?

Show room lots will never fill up. But there are lots filled I promise you. They just pretend to be low.

IMO you should not be paying $40k for a vehicle unless you are pulling $160k+
That’s not realistic.

I bought new last June after ordering in December 2021. It seems like I timed it pretty right, because now the same truck is going for 8k more with less features.

I pull in more than that and I still think cars shouldn’t cost more than $30,000 lol

You can disagree on the metrics I use to determine vehicle affordability. But do not pretend that it’s not realistic to spend under $40k for a vehicle.

I have a 15 year old who just got his permit. I paid $750 for an 08 Jeep Liberty 4x4 a few months ago with 80,995 miles. A little elbow grease, an opportunity for me to teach him to to work on cars, and he is good to go. This is the way!

Dude tell me about it. I have two payments both around $1,900

I work for a Toyota dealership. We are one of the few dealers that aren't putting an addendum sticker on our cars. We are selling 300 cars per month.

A freaking run-of-the-mill F-150 is over $50K. There's no way a vehicle's price should have nearly doubled in nine years since I bought my last truck.

I brought this exact point to a family friend that owns a dealership, we may never see packed car lots again and I wouldn’t be surprised if manufacturers keep supply artificially low for this reason.
Manufacturers will not keep supply artificially low once they can catch up. The manufacturers want to move cars. The dealerships are playing with fire here, and if they continue their current pricing and addendum’s there’s a chance the manufactures will begin to sell direct to consumer. I know Ford has already mentioned it.

The worst thing you can do for your son ,or daughter, is to buy them a new vehicle. You should buy them a used car/pickup that barely runs.
Why?
It teaches the child to be self resourceful.
Ok the beater won't start. Show the son what the problem is and teach him how to fix it.
Car needs new tires, Junior becomes a man when he buys 4 new tires for his beater.
Car has no power, check the oil? May need new injectors or spark plugs.
We must teach our kids how to be tough and solve problems on their own.
Oh,I don't want my child to be stranded by a beater. Yes you do, it teaches self reliance and problem solving.
For the record I bought my 2 each a used Honda Civic for $2500 a piece.
Now they are a dentist and a mechanical engineer and paid for their new Tahoes on their own.
Also a Ford Maverick is front wheel drive truck(?). Really ? I could blow that thing up towing my trailer before it reaches a 100 miles on the odometer.

Toyota’s sticker prices are baseline asinine.

Great idea. Buy them something that could leave them stranded and put them in a dangerous, potentially life-threating, situation.

My Range Rover is now selling for $250k which is more than 2x what I paid for the exact same car in 2018. Only difference is a updated screen and software which is probably a couple hundred max more.
