In the short term they’ve already announced they will.
Car and Driver - BMW will cover short term tariff costs

Keep in mind all their SUVs are already US sourced:

“Zipse was quick to point out one of the biggest advantages BMW has over other – particularly European luxury – automakers. Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina provides production for all of the US market’s BMW SUVs – and much of the rest of the world’s, too.

“The X3 and X5 are huge sellers for the brand, with the X3 being the brand’s best-selling model in 2023. Not bad – especially when you consider the 2023 X3 was the second to last year that specific generation was in production. It sold around 350,000 units.”

BMWBlog: BMW Shielded from Tariffs by US Production

Longer term is TBD, because they just opened a huge production facility in Mexico for the 3 series and M2. As of now they plan to increase prices for those vehicles.

“While BMW has outlined a strategy for its Mexican-built models, it has remained silent on German-produced vehicles—such as certain 3 Series trims, the i4, iX, and other models exported directly from Germany.”

Excellent post, and yes, they'll cover the US stuff for a bit, as a lot of their best-selling product is built here.
That said, they won't absorb those costs forever, and certainly won't absorb a 25% hit on imported models.

Porsche builds all the 911s in Germany and the price increase will be immediate, should the tariffs hold.

Having shopped for these on and off both new and used since Covid hit I left Porsche off my original list for a reason: those MFers can pretty much get whatever they want for the turbos in particular.

The only vehicles I see on the road that I get a little jealous of are well restored classic cars (which are the coolest vehicles out there IMO, but having dealt with them in the past it’s like being in a bad relationship with a hot social media influencer and not worth the drama) and 911 Turbos.

The turbos I have no defense for other than my lack of want to spend what they can get for them because they’re fast, fun, relatively reliable and bring the sex appeal.

You're right about that, and I can only say they hold their value extremely well.

Even before the tariff stuff the one I own is still worth what I paid for it in 23.
You can buy a Z06 for a base 911 price, and I think a lot of guys will.

That’s exactly the debate I’ve had and while I was hoping to have a backseat, the z06 would be much easier to maintain until a Porsche dealer opens closer to where I live.

I’d also considered the CTS-V / CT5 Blackwing, I’m just not a fan of buying first year GM products until they have the issues worked out and I’m not sure it hits quite the same way as the 911 and Vette.

Is anyone going to tell him that most “foreign cars” are made in America now?

That and some of those American brands are manufactured in Mexico and even China with GM.

Much heavier car, and you're gonna feel it in the corners.

The 2023 M5 is the sweet spot, IMO, for that segment. 4400#, but that 5 chassis hides that weight like a pregnant homecoming queen.

If new cars get too expensive, those of you saying “buy a used one”
,don’t you realize the buying pressure on the used market now will drive up prices there too. The delta will eventually narrow as new prices drop due to no buyers.

Leftists have already moved on past COVID and the fact everything is now 30-40% more expensive compared to pre-COVID. The economy the past 4 years was essentially ignored.

You should blame all the morons that have no self or impulse control. Dealers charge what morons are willing to finance. Quit buying for a few months and watch prices tumble.

If you’re willing/able to afford insurance on a new vehicle for a teenager, the sticker’s not going to make much difference.

It really is bad here. When my son was 17 we were looking to get him a $15,000 vehicle. Our insurance and two other companies quoted us between $475 and $525 a month for insurance on him.
We ended up passing his older sisters vehicle down to him and since it was already covered it ended up only being $350 or so a month.

The prices are still going to go up.

Tariffs threaten to raise prices by around $6,000 per vehicle on average,

President Donald Trump's 25% tariff on foreign-made vehicles and parts stands to raise prices on vehicles by thousands of dollars, according to industry economists and other analysts.

Some of the models likely to be the hardest hit are pretty strong sellers, including the Honda CRV, Chevrolet Trax and Subaru Forester, according to

About 44% of the new cars sold in the U.S. each year are made either in Canada, Mexico, or somewhere in Europe or Asia,
