25% tariff or whatever the percentage does not mean that much added to the end product. Posters in general need a basic economics course to understand real world monetary policy.

Monetary policy?

Sounds like one poster in particular needs a basic economic course to understand the difference between fiscal and monetary policy

It would be from the auto workers union knowing they can demand more due to tariffs. I'd rather just pay the mexican slave wages for the same car.

Tariffs about to make Honda civic $50k.
I guess you don't know that a majority of Honda Civics sold in the U.S. are manufactured in Indiana.

Why would a 25% tariff make a $30,000 vehicle turn into $50,000?

Trump trying to get companies to release America can produce everything it needs.

In order for this to work the tariffs have to be at a protectionist level. Aguendo they end up being high enough so that American companies can supply all our widgets it will require a huge CapEx outlay into industries that have long been gone from US soil and some that have never been here. The problem with this is two fold. One, the administration has already been wishy washy on the tariffs and even if you give them the benefit of the doubt and it is calculated bluffing and brinksmanship it still does not instill confidence in company leadership that will have to invest huge amounts of money. The second more certain issue is that companies need to be able to amortize the massive costs of expansion and start up over long periods of time to get the marginal costs of their widgets to a competitive point. Given that there is no way the administration can guarantee the tariffs extend past 1 20 2029 it is a huge risk that most companies won't be willing to take.

One non-perfect analogy is the ammo/primer shortage. This has been going on for 5 years in a well established US industry and they haven't been able to meet demand. Ask yourself if a long established industry is unable and/or unwilling to ramp up to meet demand how is every industry in the US going to ramp up or start production?

The reality is we will see some increase in US production over the rest of Trump's term if he holds to his tariff approach but a huge portion of the goods hit by tariffs will see little or no attempt to meet the demand and just function as a tax on people in the US. To accomplish what the administration wants to do the tariffs have to be at a protectionist level for a good and has to be guaranteed to be in effect long enough to make the risk of expansion viable. I think that is impossible unless we have ~20 year presidential terms.

I hope I am wrong but I don't see anyway this ends up as an overall positive for the US people but I also think we are not going to be discussing tariffs much longer than a year.

If you’re willing/able to afford insurance on a new vehicle for a teenager, the sticker’s not going to make much difference.

I bought the Armada pro4x today for 10k under sticker. Repo’s are through the roof. I don’t see it happening.

"If I don't buy one there is no effect at all."

Unfortunately car components affected by tariffs will increase repair costs and will increase insurance costs.

i know right?

your side went from purchasing Teslas strictly for political reasons to trying to key them, destroy them, and physically harm the owners of Teslas strictly for political reasons. In just a few years!

Yeah because making a country that bombed us when we swore to protect them pay a tad more to bring back American automobile industry is bad. Liberal logic.

A lot of Hondas and Toyotas are made in the US. I had a Ford imported from Spain and a Dodge made in Mexico. Don't think US vehicles will be exempt.
