If the average car salesmen gets 25% commission (just googled average commission) on a 50k truck.
You cant be this ignorant. It's 25% on gross profit which on a new Toyota is rough $2000 at sticker which is about $500. That's if the dealership doesnt have a pack that eats any of that up.

gross profit
Most of the respondents don't understand profit is not equal to sales price. There's a reason they (dealers) push bullshite nitrogen filled tires and window etching, because that actually is straight profit.
Anyone that has experience in the liquor business (and I'm guessing the car business) that understands how sales incentives work is not in this thread. Sell 12 warranties by the end of the year, get a golf cart, etc. Ignorance is bliss, especially in Louisiana.

I have a frat brother that used to be a sales manager at a new car dealership. I remember him telling me once that he has 30 salesman. Ten are pretty much permanent, the real sales pros, ten are getting ready to see the door, and ten are just coming in the door.
He finally got tired of the rat race and opened his own used car lot.

Most of this is basic marketing, namely starting with (urgency) consumers that make proclamations like, "we need to buy a new car this weekend."
Meh I’m in no rush but we eventually need a mom mobile for Mrs. jcaz. She’s narrowed it down and they have exactly what she wants on a lot nearby. 1.9% and 4K off sticker sounds like 2019 kinda numbers.

Prices won't go down because idiots are willing to pay 90k for a boat, 80k for a truck, $400 for an ice chest, etc.

You want prices to come down? Stop paying these exorbitant prices!

When can we make them pay? When will they get it? It’s like car salesmen want to live that 6 figure lifestyle now, when they rarely did before that. Looking at trucks and the prices are shameless. The most basic Tundra is 50k. Some one should tell the dealerships

Well you are a complete moron. We know that much.
I can only assume, and hope, your job is menial; and I also hope you don't have have to make any decisions...ever...for anything.

That is Great great take.
Now your old car won't work and you need to get to yourself to your 6 figure job what do you do?
Also sale people don't set the prices.
And you truck and Suvs a re stupid high and people will dictate the market.

Last vehicle we purchased had free oil change/tire rotation for the life of the vehicle.

The average salesman doesn't make shite in todays market on new cars. Dealers whore out cars, in some cases at at loss, to earn monthly volume base incentives given by the manufacturer. Let's say a MFR will pay a dealer 1000.00 per car if they sell 500 cars in a month but you get nothing extra if you sell anything less. That's 500,000 non-commissionable extra money. Would you lose 25,000 in loading up on trade ins or taking some loser deals to make 475,000? Of course. The rub is the Salesperson usually gets paid on the gross profit of the sale and not the MFR's bonus money.
Sometimes the MFR will offer incentives for the salesperson but to be honest, sales people are cannon fodder unless you are one of the chosen "house mouses" which are the arse-kissers or buddies with the manager who give "house deals" to their pets.
Before the internet a salesperson could make pretty decent money but those days are over. People can now sit at home on their computers, and send quotes out to 5,10,20 different dealers looking for the biggest whore.
The car business has a big turnover in salespeople.
