Exactly. The E30/36/39 were incredible cars even along with the 46 (sans plastic rad). We can all thank the bean counters at BMW and MB for their phenomenal leasing programs, starting in the late 90’s, that turned these cars into pure garbage outside of warranty.

BMWs break down, take a long time to repair and are expensive. They look good, though.

Heavy cars. Heavy. Performance, off the charts. Reliability (except for timing chain), off the charts.

Better than a first class airplane flight, if you're in a five, six hour range.

Exhilarating.

They've lost that.

When i see someone driving a 3 series BMW, I know they spent $43k to look like they have money when they should have spent $33k on an Accord.

Because you can spend $10k less on an Accord and it will will never break. Accords will do 300,000 miles without a hiccup with just routine maintenance.

Interesting about Buick, it only has that rep here. For the rest of the world they’re between a Chevy and a caddy. They lose value remarkably fast so they are great investments for 1-3 year old used cars

My grandfather was a Buick man. They were good cars (even that light blue 79 LeSabre).

What if they place a higher value on other aspects of owning a car?

Part of the reason is they are so fun to drive. Just so tempting to drive fast.

Getting close to 200k on my 08. It’s falling apart on the inside a bit now but it hasn’t exactly been pampered. But turn the key and she fires up every time.

Same thing with my old arse land cruiser. What a tank. Its actually held together incredibly well, with tons of life left in it. Still think the new ones are overpriced, but the hype is real.

Sounds like you’re the left lane a-hole in this situation

Yeah, but BMWs have been objectively poor in their engineering for at least ten years.

If you've just always wanted a BMW, though, buy one. I'm guilty of making purchases like that.
