Schools are closing, employers aren't being flexible, and people have to work to make ends meet.

Our daughter's dance school sent out a message that they are considering opening a "day camp" during the time the schools are closed.

Open 7 am to 6 pm, will provide drinks and snacks, teenagers and adults to watch the kids. Will help them with any homework / distance learning. Lots of playtime I'm sure, movies, etc.

$40 per kid, per day.

To me, their costs are hiring a few teenagers and stay at home moms (or teachers) to watch over things, some increased utilities cost (they own their own studio building), some snacks and drinks.

Maybe $20 per day, per kid.

Capitalism, y'all!

EDIT: This is an example of capitalism at work... it's not a criticism of said capitalism. Just an observation and example.

Some enterprising people are making money off of this situation, which of course, they have every right to do.

You're saying $5/hour is an unreasonable price to look after an annoying kid?

I have a fenced yard. You can keep your kid there for $5 an hour. I’ll put a tennis ball and a water bowl back there.

Yep my tennis club is going to make a killing because all the parents are wanting to pawn off the kids for a couple hours at least so they are going to be full to the gills

Winners and losers for every event

If you think there's that much fluff, nothing is stopping you from competing at $30.

You are a moron. Most summer camps at similar gyms cost around $200 week.

You a Bernie voter?

If you’re concerned about paying someone to watch your kids, you probably shouldn’t have kids.

My wife is a teacher, she will be home with our kids, and will probably be watching some other kids, free of charge.

Just saying that because of the government closing schools, parents now have to choose between an added expense or not working and not getting paid.

Yes, for high level gymnastic instruction, not babysitting.

Our high school does a summer camp. 100 a week. It's basically babysitting.

Are you SERIOUSLY bitching about paying $3.60 an hour to have your kid babysat?

My wife will likely be watching some additional kids for $0.

This seems pretty reasonable to me and on par with most day camps in my area

I know you are being a dullard but these kinds of services are vital if daycares and schools start shutting down.

I would gladly pay $40 a day for my kid to be watched over so that I could go to work.

I fully understand that schools are nothing but glorified daycare centers, but it's interesting you haven't said anything about the education kids are missing out on.

I'm not bitching at all. My wife will stay home with our kids, as she is a teacher and the schools are closed.

I know we are all O-T ballers, but there's a lot of people out there for whom an unexpected $400 cost a week (2 kids) is a pretty big deal.

Not to mention... WTF did we close the schools to prevent kids being together?
