Why isn’t the McRib available all year long? Is there fake pork shortage throughout most of the year.

As someone in the McD supply chain, I can tell you why: thanksgiving and Christmas are the Massive spikes of Honey baked hams.

Therefore there is a glut of meat that doesn’t go into that that goes extremely cheap as a consequence.

McD can get their rib formed patties for cheap, ramping up profit margins especially with the synergy of people who actually enjoy it and having gone without for a year.

But if it makes you feel better, it’s coming. The first batch of the sauce they bury it in is being made and packaged next week.

And it’s a joke amongst food R+D scientists because it uses like 10x the amount of seasoning concentrates of typical BBQ sauces. They want you to taste that, not the trash meat.

My HS buddy used to work at the one at the corner of Sullivan and Greenwell Springs and we'd pull up at closing time and he'd give us 3-4 bags of food they were going to toss. Bags full of curly fries and burgers.

That’s the main one I remember. I remember my dad being furious when it closed and they replaaced it with “some fricking chicken tender place”

Not PRECISELY, because of the way the pork market works (mainly due to the massive utility of the delicious pig), it is not cost-effective for fast food to carry pork products outside of breakfast menus. Given the absolutely MASSIVE competition in the pork market and the amount of product someone like McDonalds requires, if they got into the pork game for real, the price of pork would skyrocket and then McDonald's couldn't make money selling sandwiches for $3.

So, McDonald's knows EXACTLY how long it takes for them to ramp up production of the McRib and then waits until the pork markets are going through cyclical "mini-crashes". Then they start watching futures prices and when the price of contracts drops low enough for them to make a profit at normal sandwich prices maturing at a date far enough out for them to prepare for production by the time they have to take delivery of the pork they bought, they come in and buy a shite TON of pork futures. McDonalds comes in, places demand on pork, the price of futures drive back up in response, and then McDonalds quits buying futures. At this point, McDonald's knows how much pork it will be getting and exactly when they'll be getting it (because futures are sold on a basis of delivering precisely X amount on precisely Y date) so they can plan their marketing campaign and production (that stuff doesn't come naturally on the pig like that, you know) around the futures they bought and make themselves a tidy profit.

The American pork market and the McDonald's McRib have a weird symbiotic relationship. Lower market prices drive McDonald's production and the scale of McDonald's production results in higher market prices.

It's got a very predator/prey equation type thing going on.

Sooo...

As good as all of that sounds, none of it seems to be true. It’s the fact that the McRib just isn’t all that popular. The demand faded very quickly once they’re brought back. It’s simply more profitable in a limited release every so often.

I was going to say Oreo Big Stuf, but when I googled, I saw they released a version last year called Most Stuf. It’s kind of making my stomach hurt just to look.

I was at the gas station and saw these ridiculous slim Jim’s. Bet they were like a pound each. That’s too much mechanically separated chicken parts and spices for one sitting.

McDonalds has those fried and grilled chicken wraps that were insanely good too. The buffalo chicken ranch was my favorite.
Those were pretty good for fast food lighter fare. I liked the grilled one with the sweet chili sauce.

Flat breads from Taco Bell. It seems like Taco Bell is the most common place on this thread. They come up with some good shite then leave us hanging.

Taco Bell Management needs to stop thinking they are anything other than a drunken delicacy. Do not touch the Mexican pizzas, crunch wraps, or Doritos locos tacos. This is why I boycotted and made Canes my 2am drunken pick me up.

A buddy of mine that worked at BWW’s told me that McDonalds single handedly caused a wing shortage in the nation when they promoted those wings.
