White Flight
In the 1950s the American Dream was to own a HOME. Own a home outside of the city. Have some land. Drive your car to work. Build highways to make the in and out of the city easier so you can get home to your cookie cutter "house" faster and away from the city center that USED to have shops, dining, grocery stores, clothing stores, your work, your Church, your school, your favorite theater, your favorite bar, all packed together in this nice microcosm of America all in a few city blocks with the apartments intermingled.
Once the suburban dream was sold, those citizens who could afford to buy into this dream (affluent white baby boomers) did rapidly. And suddenly nobody was patronizing the stores and shops and cultural areas in the CITY. Instead of commuting to the city for everything, those ammenities acutally COMMUTED to the suburbs.
So what was left in the city? Land owners dying for tenants, business owners DYING for customers. Rent prices went down and down. Businesses left.
Then you have what you have today. Inner cities populated by the poor and uneducated. The affluent people driving in on a Friday or Saturday night to partake in anything that is still relevant in the city and then driving back home. The inner city is now like a vacation destination except those in charge of its upkeep (the people who live there) don't care.
And that's how you get urban decay.

What are the odds Norman Francis’ kin owned slaves..pretty decent odds.
What they’ve done is replace a White slave owners named street ...with a black slave owners name
How’s that for “inclusivity”..
Doubtful.
Norman Francis grew up dirt poor in Lafayette, and attended college on a work scholarship.
I don’t like naming streets for people who are still alive, but he’s proof positive of escaping poverty through hard work. Something we should definitely celebrate and recognize in this country and especially the City of New Orleans.

I was just in NOLA a few weeks ago and the biggest difference I noticed was the lack of police. Both NOPD and LSP. I know NOPD has had a shortage in police officers for years but this was the first year it was really noticeable. I saw no NOPD or LSP on Bourbon Street like in years past. I honestly only saw one police officer in the French Quarter over 3 days and that was in front of Cafe Du Monde. It was in the morning and an individual with clear mental problems was harassing people waiting in line for Cafe Du Monde to open. It took almost 20 minutes for a cop to show up to get the person away from the tourists. Very sad to see.

It’s not Nola. It’s the cultural changes amongst the youngsters. They’re dirtier, less educated, anti religious, anti American, it’s all over the USA. The government schools have made everyone stupider and very crass in general They litter, abuse, and don’t understand right from wrong. Not all youngsters, but most from government schools. They’re pathetic.

Of course she will, and those same people that “Voted” for it will still be blaming someone else for their problems long after it’s re-elected.

It's nice when people actually inhabit a downtown and don't have to worry about getting stabbed or killed. Can't do that in Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, New Orleans, or Lafayette

Only been to NO three times in the last decade now. I get all the languishing landscape sampling I need when making Tony's & Krispy Kreme runs in BR.
Trips to Nawlins have too many mofos to navigate around to get some Mopho.
Dem Mayorships, DAs, Judges + National Opioid Epidemic + Non Ideal Economy = Sh!tholes.
It's a national issue, not just the 4X running 50th rated state's problem.

No one is suggesting Francis doesn’t deserve recognition AT ALL.
I’m merely pointing out the vociferous hypocrisy of the Left in targeting anything slave oriented while repugnantly ignoring the fact that 1000s of blacks in America OWNED Tens of Thousands of SLAVES in America. You know the kind of reality the left hates having shoved in their face the kind they do somersaults to ignore or deny. And America “slave history” is precisely the kind of “historical-record” reality they’ve been deleting and censoring since the Reconstruction.
And while Norman Francis himself may indeed have been poor his ancestors were no doubt FREE black creoles who unmistakably would have owned property including field slaves, and Post War they too would have lost everything of value except their land leaving his generation impoverished esp DURING The Great Depression.
For historical perspective-
the Bayou Cane creole matriarch she owned and operated a massive plantation owning 1000 slaves alone.

I visited several businesses downtown New Orleans last week. Homeless on every street corner and you could smell weed constantly. I don’t really care if you smoke recreationally, but this was 10 am on a Tuesday by the homeless sitting in public.
Once this eviction moratorium ends, shite is going to hit the fan. I’ve talked managers of some very nice apartments and they can’t get people to pay rent. Commercial real estate buildings are vacant as well.
