All the Russians I met when I went there and when we had some come over to train were awesome. Canada is hit or miss. Coastline Canadians were nice. People from Edmonton were assholes.

It's the goddamn French Canadians that are assholes. You have to watch out for them.

It’s been my experience that most Canadians are pretty nice.
I’ve been there a bunch and know some pretty well.
I’ve got a much smaller sample size of Russian friends and acquaintances but they are OK as well.
I heard a Canadian comedian’s joke about the stereotype of Canadians being nice.
He said that there’s only aboot 5,000 Canadian assholes. And they all work for the Border Police*.

Well for starters Canadian's live under the US umbrella of defense and economy and are very similar to Americans. Russians are a bit different and its easy to run afoul cultural differences. They do have long memories and those memories shape their attitude.
Russians do harbor suspicion towards outsiders and given their history, I can't really blame them since they were invaded numerous times from the Mongols to Napoleon to the Germans. Lets just say the Russians have paid for their real estate with a lot of their blood.
