Colorado's revenue from marijuana sales tax for 2015 was $996 million
Funny, that specific $996 million number is reported another way in this LINK:
quote:
Licensed and regulated marijuana stores in Colorado sold $996,184,788 worth of recreational and medical cannabis in 2015, according to new data from the state Department of Revenue.
Sales tax =/= sales.
For the record, I'm for 100% legalization, across the board, period. But the lack of clear-eyed reporting (see what I did there) on the actual tax and budget benefits is... interesting.

How many violent episodes occur when people go to liquor stores and buy beer?
I believe you are paraphrasing a conversation and taking it out of context. But to answer you question zero. You know how many times I've witnessed a violent episode while buying bootleg whisky...zero. Or any other illegal merchandise/ substance.... zero. I have had zero violent acts during those times. So why wasn't the "violent dealer" in those situations present with illegal substances being sold?

I still don't get who you think is going to be violent or why?
You said you weren't worried about the dealer earlier:
quote:
It's really not the drug dealers I'm worried about. Heck my girlfriends dad in high school was a big time dealer (little did I know at the time) and the nicest guy ever. It's the end user and the atmosphere that they create in society that I fear. I've seen first hand what meth does to my workers, I've seen the unpredictable crackheads lurking the streets near by family functions. Drugs exist because of people and not because of a drug dealer. The illegal portion of that is to limit the availability of those drugs that make people violent, crazy, unpredictable, impaired or otherwise worthless to society.
Are you expecting these stores, that will have their own security, t be robbed at gunpoint by a pothead needing his fix?
Are you expecting potheads to be committing violent crimes like methheads and crack addicts to buy pot?
Is there any proof of there being a huge problem with potheads, not the people who participate in the illegal business of selling of pot, committing violent crimes?
They may not have the money to pay their bills on time, but they're not out there stealing their mom's silverware or their brother's tools to buy a lid.
I doubt you've ever been around real bootleggers that make their living that way. The only ones I knew back in the 70's got sent to the pen for selling cocaine when bootlegging was no longer profitable. Those bootleggers would have blown your head off if you crossed them.

Sounds 1000x better than what happens when illegal drug deals go bad. Let's move to end the illegal drug deals.

I believe this because of statistics.
Maybe you should try incorporating the statistics.

When a substance is cheaper and readily more available (once legalized) then it only makes sense that usage increases along with users.
I agree. Just look at our current drug culture. Legal pills are easy to get and no one ever does heroin. Also, it's easier for kids to get legal alcohol than weed.
OH. Wait. The exact opposite is true.

I am not a Stoner, but, I would like to be a Stoner. I'm thinking of moving to Canada.

Yes, the explosion of Colarados population will probably be mirrored in Canada..

Oh this argument again. Ok, so it doesn't magically solve all budget problems. But $41M would sure help Louisiana right now, and Louisiana would make a lot more money than that.
