OTTAWA — The Canadian government announced Wednesday that it will introduce legislation next year to decriminalize and legalize the sale of marijuana, making Canada the first G7 country to permit widespread use of the substance. The announcement was made by Canada’s health minister, Jane Philpott, at a U.N. drug conference in New York. It follows through on a promise made during Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s successful election campaign last fall.

Meh, regardless of whatever the federal govt does, Louisiana will be the last state to ever decriminalize or legalize it.

Too many people's livelihoods depend on it, and too much power would be lost.

I would take Utah in that bet but these people are elected here so I don't know

Sen. Francis Thompson, D-Delhi, denounced the measure.

“I am going to tell you, I don’t want my children, my grandchildren or my great grandchildren or anyone that comes after me taking marijuana,” said Thompson, a state lawmaker for four decades.

“I just don’t believe we ought to be headed this direction, with all the drug problems we have,” he said. “I have never in my life had someone ask me about legalizing marijuana.”

Its amazing how ignorant some of you staunch conservatives are. Some of the richest people in this country smoke plenty of weed. I'd guess over 75% of all the major players in Silicon Valley smoke. I'd say the same for Hollywood as well. Hell I'd guess that the most of the writing, on a lot of shows that are on t.v. right now, is done during a big smoke session. You can't tell me that these frickers that are writing The Flash aren't just sitting there smoking weed and making shite up as they go

Is that you William Randolph?

Good for Canada. The war on drugs has been a huge failure.
