Re: the ridiculous BBT comparison LSU will never be CalTech.

We’ll never have the liberal arts programs like other state schools. Don’t have the funding or population necessary.

Academically LSUs bread and butter is the school of engineering and some of the business/marketing stuff. A few random undergrad and postgrad majors.

Kill a half dozen or so other universities and that could change.

This is a good post and a good take on the situation at LSU. Regrettably, state higher education funding is spread far too thinly for LSU to have excellence across the board. We throw too little money at too many colleges and universities to spend higher education dollars wisely or efficiently. LSU prioritizes engineering and the natural sciences, which makes sense, but any other units that have done well have done so on their own and without resources that are comparable to those provided at other universities. This is why excellence cannot be sustained over time in most departments. A given department can hire some good faculty and do a great job for a short while, but eventually the good faculty get picked off by better funded universities--LSU invests very little in retaining high-quality faculty--and the quality of the department returns to mediocrity. I have seen this pattern in my own department and in many other departments across campus. There are a lot of faculty working heroically to make their departments as good as they can be, but it is an impossible dream with the resources available to LSU.

Yep. Sucks to see it but we’re a one trick pony academically

You're only half right here. Miles was given a second chance because he campaigned for Jindal. Alexander, a Jindal appointee, was asked by Jindal to give Miles another chance.

Think of it as one last "frick you!" from Bobby Jindal.

I hate F King because he was one of JBE's biggest toadies for the massive tax increases that JBE pushed and the end result was JBE stealing several billion dollars out of our wallets for the same shite government we've always had, more economic dysfunction and more economically bright people leaving Louisiana.

FKA publicly focused on what he felt was wrong with LSU and ignored or undermined what is right about LSU

As a reformer he was a terrible salesman and simply was not a person the LSU community could get behind. He came in as an outsider and leaves as an outsider, he never seemed to connect with anyone

This is just another “good ole boy” attempt and they have run it up the flagpole to see what kind of resistance it gets so they can decide to reward him for his political support. fricking Louisiana at its finest.

And for the record I’ve known Jay Dardenne since we were kids, I’ve supported and voted for him over his career. But this stinks to high fricking heaven.

Same here about knowing him and supporting him all these years. However, at this point he has become just another career politician who had done countless favors for other politicians to get where he is today.
Unfortunately, due to exactly what you have stated, he will be the next President of LSU. I also agree that he is not qualified in any way to run any university, much less LSU. To no one's surprise Louisiana politics continue to be Louisiana politics.

I am. I have been to Madison and it’s an awesome town

But there is absolutely ZERO diversity of thought there. It’s dominated by progressive thought and good luck being brave enough to be public with a conservative rhetoric

Here's one of many reasons.
quote:

Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera’s investigation, released Monday, found that LSU management jettisoned its usual practices and chose instead to try to market a potentially lucrative computer program through a private nonprofit controlled by members of the Board of Supervisors. Commonly called LaHIT and formed in September 2014, the Louisiana Health Information Technology Foundation entered into contracts that didn’t maximize royalties for the university and ultimately were cancelled in March 2017. The deal cost taxpayers at least $410,000 in legal fees while at the same time creating a web of conflicts of interest along with possible violations of the ethics laws and the state Constitution, according to the audit.

There's been a lot of smoke around this guy before his LSU days. It's easy to find it you put any effort into it. He also had multiple PR blunders which included saying football coaches are paid too much and at some point will need to be capped. I'm not saying he's wrong but you don't sat that when you realize the money machine that is a successful college football program. LSU football gives a lot of money back to the university and someone running the university shouldn't be so greedy and short sided.

Which makes me wonder. All those people who became indignant over donating to the LSU Foundation because "I refuse to give money to liberal F. King." Now that he's gone, will they finally give to the university they claim to love? Or will they make up another excuse?

outright war on greek system, punishing the innocent as well as the guilty - meanwhile looking the other way when other "student" groups do similar and in some cases worse things.
