I guess technically what I was doing could have negatively impacted his business, but the chatroom I was doing this in was a group of a bunch of people who all loyally patronize his business and thought it was funny. I am guessing a user or two in the chat felt like they needed to notify him about it, hence why 2 days after I did it I was contacted.

Chat room is a community I am a part of that all uses this individual's business. People on this board have claimed to have used the business too so its not a small podunk no name business.

They don't know its me personally.
On the IRC chat I was in you have to register your nickname to join the channel. So the nickname I registered was the first name of the company's president, a hyphen and the name of his company. When you register your nickname on IRC, there is a service called memoserv which is kind of like an email service where you can leave memos to other users. When you get a memo, you also get an email in the email inbox you used to register the nickname.
I checked the email inbox of the name I registered and saw I had received a memo from a nickname of the company followed by admin. The memo was from someone claiming to be with the company, saying what I was doing is libelous and they have notified their lawyers.

i pretended to be a famous new orleans chef from Peche a few times on the food board. and on more than one occasion, i copy/pasted posters' names and avatars into my avatar and pretended to be them. nothing's really happened to me except losing avatar privileges since 2011. sometimes a black charger follows me home from work, but i think that has more to do with what i post on craigslist.

Mikey posted some bad shite about someone and got sued. I don't know the full details but there are others that do.
