True, but they are waiting for the owner of the liquor store to open up for the day, then they are buying a fifth and several of those airplane bottles of booze for their quick shots just to make it home.
If all this guy is drinking is a 12 pk of Bud light, he's probably not an alcoholic in the strictest snse

Nah...he may not be. But a lot of alcoholics drink nothing but light beer..... just a crap ton of it. I honestly feel like that's worth. Wrecking your body on vodka is awful, but I can't imagine the hell cheap light beer does in those quantities.

I think the only pre-req is that it's alcohol and you constantly frick up things in your life: work, school, relationships with your kids, wife, etc.
If your boy drinks and can maintain, then he's fine. But my guess is that there's more to the story.

Use to go fishing with a guy who went through 4 cases of bud light per week. This was his functional alcoholism. He said in his younger days he would get into the hard stuff but it ruined his life. The 12-15 beers per day helped him keep the edge off and he only caught a slight buzz from it.

He's definitely an alcoholic. He's a functioning one now but in all likelihood that will change. He's probably physically addicted at this point as well.

I'm sure it's possible, but honestly, most real alcoholics move on to the hard liquor because the light stuff like beer stops working. I think it's possible he just enjoys his beer.
