Like the difference between North and South BR vs East BR Parish and West BR Parish.

I know that North BR is where SUBR is located and is also the less desirable side of Baton Rouge. South BR is the home of LSU and is the economic powerhouse of the Baton Rouge (essentially corporate Baton Rouge).

However I dont understand the East BR/ West BR Parish divide.

North BR is were most of your industry/plants and economic powerhouses of the parish are, along with the inner city higher crime areas, and lower income. South BR is made up more of commercial business and higher income neighborhoods.

You also have North EBR parish which is Baker, Zachary, Central and so on which are more rural suburbs of BR.

East and West Baton Rouge are separated by the MISSISSIPPI RIVER and are very different. BR is the big city, and WBR is poorer, more agriculture, small town type of area.

Does not compute. Why does the industrial side of parish have higher unemployment and lower income?

This is the exact same in any city with much industry.

Basically because plant jobs, and industries that support them usually pay well. The people that work in these fields make good incomes, don't want to live in the ghetto that areas around them have become, and move away from them to get away from the crime, and poor schools.

Thus home prices plummet, schools are shite, and the downward spiral grows larger. Baton Rouge is not unique in this. The plants in North BR pay tons in taxes, and salaries to their employees.

The better question is why do people who live in these areas not assert themselves a little more to try and get one of those jobs, or a any job for that matter?

In 40's - 70's NBR was a working class area.
Istrouma High was the it working class school. Today most of the working class left due to crime. When my grandparents moved back down after WWII if you wanted to live by Istrouma it was a premium. When I-110 was built they closed it at Hollywood until they finished it. You could go out on Friday night as a young teenager and watch drunks drive off the end of the expressway into Montosanto Bayou.

Unicorporated EBRP has areas between Baker and NBR called Brownsfield, Alden by the dump, and areas like deerford by Baker/ Zachary and Pride in NE EBRP above Central. A lot of the roads are named especially in the Pride area after the areas they connect (Pride/port Hudson road, etc).

SBR was more white collar jobs and state workers in desk jobs.

Then you have a lot of unicorporated areas in the Southern part of the parish (Gardere, Areas identified as St George, and Stevendale/O'Neal/Millerville by Denham Springs).

That's pretty much defined on any area map. Have you bothered to check there?
