As much as other cities. NY carried on despite the terror.

Can you name an American city that didn’t survive a mass violence event?

If Katrina didn't' scare people away, this shite on Jan 1st is just a of hair in a 3-piece from Popeyes

I have no intentions of going to NOLA anytime soon. And NOLA has always been one of my favorite cities IN THE WORLD when it comes to architecture, culture, and food and I'm well traveled. I no longer feel comfortable with the crime response from the city and the bad DEI police chief hire.

The infrastructure improvements are lipstick on a pig and it’s unlikely that they will really be completed before the Super Bowl.
Also, your grammar sucks for someone who is

I do think Landry is doing a good job with trying to clean up NOLA just announced today about clearing out homeless and trying to get them placed in long term housing State Police have definitely made a difference as far as crime and there will now be more attention to security after the terrorist attack. Sidney Torres also has helped clean the Quarter so NOLA will survive. God bless the poor souls who were victims that night although it could and does happen in other places it hurts when it hits home

People who say “NOLA”.

Where are they hiding? Downtown? In the quarter?

My son and I were in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl and were staying at the Royal Sonesta so pretty damned close to the attack. I have been to New Orleans for long weekends MANY times in the past, the most recent being about 6 years ago for a wedding. This last trip is by far the most enjoyable New Orleans trip I have ever had, terrorist attacks and UGA getting curb stomped notwithstanding. I have always had a sort of love hate relationship with New Orleans and have said I would never go back again but this trip was pleasant from start to finish, even with the addition of another day in town due to the game being pushed back. New Orleans is, if this trip is any indication, MUCH improved over what it has been. I truly hope the attacks do not change that momentum, the US is better off with New Orleans being what it can be when its good than it is when it is the best managed city in the Carribean.
I have already booked an anniversary trip for the wife and I in May. This is the first time I have ever been to New Orleans where I would consider returning in less than a year LOL. New Orleans is MUCH improved as a long weekend destination in my opinion.

Although starting with a negative premise, is this the most positive thread about New Orleans in 5 years on this site?

I have too much invested in Mardi Gras. Will be visiting at least twice this year.

Drinking, partying, fighting, strippers>terrorism
They will rebound and rebound rather quickly IMO as they should. It was an isolated event (so far) and many people including myself consider it to be a one-off situation.

This and it can and will happen anywhere. It is not a New Orleans problem it is a idiot problem and they are everywhere. Avoiding life because there are idiots is a win for the idiots. That alone is reason enough to spend a long weekend in New Orleans, if for no other reason than to deny the idiots whatever twisted sense of victory they get from being idiots.

New Orleans definitely has its warts, but for whatever reason, right or wrong, people on TD are overwhelmingly negative on any and everything, and I’m sure they are the same way around their family and friends. Life’s too short to be grumpy all the time.

Man, it is a shame to say it, but that shite didn’t even “move the needle”. With the fires out west chewing up all of the headlines, people have all but forgotten about what that dead SOB did. It was quite literally, his “15 minutes of fame”.
Besides, the quarter is going to smell lemon fresh now!

I think if you want to stay away from the city because of the car break-ins and chance of getting shot by a hood rat, I get that. If you want to stay away from the city because of the general stink weed smell it has lately I get that.
But... I think your take is bad for a few reasons.
1) Most people would not think of a white woman as a DEI hire. Also that white women, despite being here just over a year, is, by far, the most popular / well liked / respected public official in the city, and it's not close. The NOPD is much improved over a year ago. She's a HUGE reason why the city is finally starting to exit the consent decree.
2) Most intelligent people do not overly fault the city for what happened. Hindsight is 20/20, of course. The FQ has always been a very open place, and there is a balancing act between blocking everything off, and leaving it so wide open it is possible to attact. If the sidewalks are blocked, what happens if there is an emergency requiring people to get out?
3) DId NY survive 9/11? Did Boston survive the marathon bombing? Did Las Vegas survive the concert shooting?
4) The things that make NOLA a great tourism town, are still going to be there. We still will have the nightlife, the hotels close to the dome, the riverfront, the dining, etc.

The chances of you getting shot or robbed by a black male are astronomically higher than nearly every single major city in America and people on this board will continue to defend it, which is only enabling it.
They may be higher than other places, but they are still insanely low, provided you don't go looking for trouble, and you act with common sense (don't go walking down dark alleys at 3 am flashing a stack of cash)
Also, no one defends the bad parts about NOLA - the crime, the politicans, etc. They defend the good parts about NOLA.
You can love something and still see the flaws.

A place where you aren’t taking your life into your own hands for simply turning down the wrong street.
A place where you can leave your trunk open in your driveway while bringing groceries in without fear of some piece of shite stealing your car in the time it takes for you to bring the groceries in the house.
A place in which you don’t have to worry about being robbed at gunpoint.
A place in which its soul identity isn’t “hey come down here, get shite faced and treat the entire city like your own personal toilet!”
A place that doesn’t roving packs of pieces of shite on four wheelers and dirt bikes (which they undoubtedly stole) riding wheelies and doing doughnuts in the middle of the street.
A place that doesn’t have as much trash on the ground as it does in the cans.
A place that doesn’t stink like a Tiger Stadium portashitter during the home opener in August/September.
I could go on. New Orleans is a top 5 shite city in the nation but for whatever reason, people defend it to their death.

I spent a good bit of time in New Orleans over the summer and fall related to conferences and projects, and it seemed like downtown looked better than it has since Covid. The people from out of town had a great time. The return of State Police is helpful
Troop Nola has been a huge help. I don’t like Landry but he was spot on about this.
frick Latoya and JBE for letting Nola become a crime riddled shithole without even trying to mitigate it. Useless fricks.
