Hope you make more than that. Always interesting reading your threads on finding gems out of junk. Keep up the good work.

You got rules? Like, are you only going to sell 1 item at a time that counts towards this? Or like, if you get $50 for the first item, you going to buy 10, $5 items?

Basically, I will just use the money I make from current purchase, to buy more items.
For example, if the derby car sells for $20, I can use that $20 to buy as many items as I like. Say I buy four $5 items, and they sell for an average of $20 each, I now have $100 to spend on as many or few items that I want, and so on.
I only listed the derby car because I found out the yo-yo isn’t worth much.

I’ll give the derby car a week or two, if it does sell, I’ll buy another $1 item.

I am heading to an estate sale right now and I decided to buy something for one dollar. How long would it take me to turn that one dollar into enough money to pay for family of four to go to Japan? I will deduct all Ebay fees and shipping and just use my net profit for each item and snowball it into a trip.
We are planning to go to Japan in two years and from what I see it’ll Be about $6000-$8000.
Updates to follow

It's funny but my grandfather always laughed that he bought my Mom's first car for a busted bicycle.

If I remember correctly. He fixed the bike and traded the bike for a hound, the hound for a mule, the mule for a plow, the plow for a broken tractor (he fixed it) and the tractor for a 66 VW Beetle for my mother when she left for college.

This is like that guy who traded a big red paper clip (for something random) and continued trading until he got a house.

When you go to Japan, hit up the secondhand kimono shops instead of the tourist shops.

You can get real silk kimono or haori for a bargain.

As much as I like his $1 challenge, I’m probably more excited to see what he buys in Japan

One Red Paperclip

I read this book years ago about how a guy traded a red paperclip into a house in 14 trades. Didn’t hurt that he got media attention to help his trades. It was still a good read. I think he has a blog you can look his trades up on.

I thought about you the other day while cleaning out a relative's house. Do you know anything about Emmett Kelly jr figurines? I have 4 of them each about 10" tall and they play music.

You’ve been consistent enough with your trash to treasure stories. Would love to see it documented in a running thread though.

that would be a great follow up to see how garage sale hunting in Japan goes.
