Can anyone here honestly say they wouldn't try to cross into the US from Mexico?

If your greatest threat was getting caught, grabbing a warm meal along with a warm bed for a few days, dropped back in Mexico with your buddies, and then do it all over again? And in the mean time before you get caught (if ever), you can make 40 times more cash than you ever would have in Mexico working construction?

I think a desire to improve one's lot in life without directly harming anyone is more admirable than passive respect for law.

I would absolutely try. But once I made it I would shut my fricking mouth and lay low and not go around saying how racist everyone is.

Well that is what many undocumented people already do.

This is always gonna be a topic that I will have personal conflicts with. Those that keep saying everyone should come here legally clearly are not aware how expensive and how many hoops you actually have to jump through to become a citizen. I have a friend that is now here legally...his parents are still stuck in Mexico and spending $$$ to try and come back. They had been here for years on a VISA trying to go through the process to become citizens. In that time they had a business and paid taxes and just wanted to follow the American dream. Post 9/11 it became more and more difficult for them to get their VISA renewed. It eventually expired and they were not able to renew it so they were deported.

These appeals to legality are not convincing.

The problem with immigration is the entitlement system, not the mindset of immigrants. I sure wouldn't give a flying rat frick about whether or not something was nominally illegal if I knew I could make a better life for myself and my family.

I don't blame them, but that doesn't mean that I have to encourage or assist them.

Wait, they actually started deporting people? When did this happen?

This. The system is set up to reward people to come here illegally. Come here illegally and pregnant and have your baby here, then they are a citizen and now you get money each month. You can't really blame people that live in third world conditions at times to want to live somewhere where they know their basic needs are going to be met.

Who would have thought that when you incentivize certain behavior, you get more of it?!?
